Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II

I'll start out with the summary: If you want to (re)play this game, this is hands down the version you want. Why? Well, if you've tried emulation, you already know that the Snowblind engine does not work well with emulators whatsoever. And you certainly don't want to play a game in muddy 480p on decrepit ancient hardware. Pros of this port: - Crisp, fluid framerate without any dips whatsover (unlike the original) - Properly scaled up resolution and the dimensions were changed to accomodate the fact you have the monitor right in front of you unlike the TV during console play. Frankly, it's a joy to look at what was achieved in this port. Great to see a remaster done right for a change. - MUCH faster load times. - Full controller support and customization, or play with mouse and keyboard - no idea how well that works, because why in the world would you not use a controller for a PS2 game? It's mildly annoying that the button prompts are exclusively for the Xbox controller, despite this being a PS2 game. Oh well, it's not rocket science to map the buttons as you want them and then it doesn't matter anymore. Cons of this port: - Very minor clipping errors and graphical glitches in the inventory. - Price may seem steep for someone who doesn't know the game. For fans of the game: it's absolutely worth the upgrade from the original. So why only 4 stars after raving about it? Well, because while the remaster is fantastic, the game itself definitely isn't for everyone or without flaws: From a sore lack of move variety to the difficulty swinging wildly to the point of being absolutely unfair at times, this is one of those games that you will either fall in love with or that will bore and/or frustrate you out of your mind. My advice: Check out a playthrough and if it seems down your alley, grab this. Refunds are an option after all and you'll know within a few horus whether this is a game for you or not.

If this was under 10$ yea but at this price i rather play the ps2 or GameCube version that you can not only find cheaper but you can also easy emulate

I absolutely love this game. I own it on every platform. I have no problem with the game...except for the port for using a controller. Push the movement stick up and it rotates the camera left. Push it down and it rotates the camera right. Push the movement stick left? The character moves -up-. Right? The character moves -down-. YOU CANNOT TURN AT ALL. Up or down by pushing left or right on the movement stick only. The right stick, normally used for camera movement? Does absolutely nothing. I have no idea who was in charge of programming the controller mapping, but they did a terrible job and it is currently unplayable with a controller because of it - you can't even remap the movement part of the controller setup. Playing with a keyboard works fine...but that isn't why I bought the game. I bought it specifically because it had 'controller support', which is broken. Note: For reference, I was using an X-Box One controller with a USB PC dongle.

Find anybody else willing to bring this game over to PC. Why has everybody gotten so spoiled, that for an older game to be brought to PC, it must have all new features, all new characters, all new weapons, completely optimized for ULTRA Gaming Rigs! ULTRAAAAAAA!!! Just give GOG 30 bucks for the headache of getting the D&D license, the headache of dealing with Intelectual property holders, and the time to get it to run on PC at all, not to mention the biggest PLUS OF ALL TIME NO FREAKING DRM!!!!. Hell that last point alone is worth $100 to me.

Seriously, this game was so much fun when it came out. It had a type of New Game+ feature as well so you can actually use all that super powered gear and special quest bonuses against regular baddies as well. I played through basically every character class as well when replaying with my (now) ex-wife and people I used to hang out with. Low stress action adventure RPG, without the issue of graph paper mapping, and having to worry about 20 decisions that have permanent impact on character growth 20 hours later in the game. Also you can go back to areas to finish clearing them out. So much less stress than the most heavy RPGs where you 90% of decisions are "Do I make this person hate me/die and leave game, or this person hate me/die leave the game."
