Early access, I know, but....

I don't know if it's only on my end, but this version seems to have more problems than the original. I have massive FPS drops and stuttering while the fighters are engaged and do their attack runs on the bomber formation. There are lots of audio glitches, the flak or bomb impacts, for example. There is only 16:9 aspect support, so tough luck if you have anything else, and chances are, in 2024, you have something wider.... The collisions somehow get even more absurd than on the original, I can't complete one mission without every attacking fighter colliding with the bombers at some point.... I really hope this EA state means everything will be addressed, because right now, playing the original feels better. I'm not even joking, I did two missions in the original The Mighty Eight before writing this.... C'mon, Microprose, I have faith in you. Make our beloved Mighty Eight to shine.

Early access review - Good start

Having enjoyed the original many years ago it was nice see this old title getting a remaster for modern systems. Looking at the latest build (Late Jan 2024) I see they've added widescreen static room images that look really good. The UI is basically the same - but I'm glad they got rid of that Comic Sans font. UI wise its not always clear what is 'clickable' so I hope they add some outlines or hints. Outside views while on a mission look identical to the original with the same low res (by todays standards) textures. Another annoying thing is texture / terrain pop-in still exists. This again was native to the original, but I really would expect they would eliminate this on modern systems (heck, your cell phone has more processing power now adays than your 24 year old desktop). Audio wise its more of the same with some new music. The sounds are good (as is the original) but one thing I'd really like to see fixed is the audio cut-out when you switch from station to station. A second or two of silence really breaks the immersion (again, this is native to the original title) Overall a good start- but I hope they fix the outside textures and terrain / building pop-in. This would really make this title shine and more than make up for the asking price.

It's back!

Glad it's back, I played this game many many years ago as a kid and loved it, even thought it was so difficult to play. Training Missions didn't seem to work very well so far, I seemed to be able to soft lock them easily by switching to the wrong view or something at the wrong time. Switched into a campaign as a quick trial, automated takeoff and then the AI crashed into one of the other B-17s in my squadron, wonderful. Will try again. Controls for a modern audience would be my first reccomendation to the devs. 3D Graphics look dated also. But it's a start!

Return of a GREAT

I remember buying this game after playing a demo "disc" from an 'Amiga' magazine. I was hooked with the flight, the fight and everything... "Back then" the graphics were great. Today, I'm running the redux version 1.12-(AND UPDATES ARE REGULAR.) ************* i wrote this when released, Sadly, this is a dead game now.. no updates since 1.17.... or 1.18 on steam,now 30th Sept2025. It's the same game with some of the old problems fixed. Yet, the ground still 'pops' into view and you can watch building suddenly appear,( which can cause a challenge when "on the bomb run". ) The strange 'flat' clouds are the same.(IL-2 1946-made about the same time-has great clouds. this should have better now.) There are updated 'still' images at the start. The static interiors of B17 have been improved. the Luftwaffe A.I is improving -at the moment (version 1.12 ) they fly a weirdly slow? I have not tried, but I don't think you can fly Luftwaffe planes within a mission yet.(the original you could). BUT it is STILL a GREAT game! It's one of those "just one more missions" before dinner" one more speed up the time just to do the bomb run. Just face off one more Axis attack then I must leave and pick up mum from the shops. IT's ... bugger that, mum can get the bus home I'm on the bomb run now. If you loved, liked ,played the original then give this a chance . the devs have 'promised' more.

Fun and simple

Whats not to like about bombing a harbour? Nice re-make and clean up of an already fun game!
