My favorite retro FPS game so far

Graven is by far the best new old FPS game I have encountered in a while. I grew up with all the classics like Doom, Qukae, Hexen, RoTT, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and so on and I'm addicted to these games until today. Trying new ports, remakes, mods and stuff. Most of the new oldschool style FPS games like Dusk, Amid Evil or Wrath couldn't get me really hooked. Graven did. It has this great retro feeling looking like a polished mix of Hexen, Undying and Quake and yet has it's very own character. What is unique here is the amazing level design. Placed in a medieval town and having to complete tasks to unlock areas is so satisfying and adictive. The gameplay is fast and rewarding. I love it. The early access version is quite good. The most issues I have encountered are the AI which get stuck sometimes, glitch or spawn strangely. Hope to get the final version soon.

Dusk was better, but still great.

A very atmospheric, fast paced shooter. Each of the 7 episodes has unique enemies that you have to adjust your playstyle to, and it's just the right difficulty on Hard. Every weapon has its situation too. It's clear the devs put a lot of thought into the top level design. That, and screenshots don't really do justice to how good the game's style looks in my opinion. You have to play it yourself or see it in motion. Each episode is about long enough for a single session the first time through. There is no plot. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star in my books is 1) Unreal Engine 4 which unless the devs modify the physics controls like crap. They did not and as such it feels just as floaty, quite disappointing after playing DUSK. 2) The wildly inconsistent level design quality. Aesthetics seem to be the drivers over fun on some of the levels. The episode with crazy amounts of crushers was horrible, the rock people one was boring, and the last one the enemies had extremely jacked up health pools. There are more high points than low though - the episode with all the stained glass was absolutely amazing. Hoping to see more from these guys!

Oldschool - but free of git gud bull

I'm very happy to say that Amid Evil gets 90s gaming right. This FPS is true to form, fun to play, and doesn't force an arbitrarily high difficulty level on you. You get to choose one of three difficulties (think Quake, they even do that thing where the way to a gate will be different based on whether it's Easy, Medium or Hard), and I'm happy to report that Medium is a perfectly sensible balance, with Hard being just harder enough to feel somewhat challenging but not unfair. If you were longing for a trip down memory lane, but with a modern twist, Amid Evil is well worth your attention.

The 90s shooter made today that you need

[English] This game may not be for the average player, It's for the shooter players who feel nostalgia for 90's shooters. It's fast, has polished controls, very successful level design and well differentiated weapons. In short, it is like Quake, made in modern times, with an aesthetic similar to Heretic/Hexen. Personally, I had fun even more than playing Dusk, and that's saying a lot. [Spanish] Este videojuego puede que no sea para la media de jugadores sino más bien para los nostalgicos de los que había en los 90 pero quieren una revisión actual. Es rápido, sus controles están bien pulidos, tiene un buen diseño de niveles y un abanico de armas donde cada una está bien diferenciada. En resumen, es como hacer un Quake, pero con un diseño actual y una estética similar a la de Heretic/Hexen. Personalmente me he divertido incluso un poco más que con Dusk, lo cual ya es decir mucho.
