Slightly disappointed

Maybe I'm simply too much a fan of 4k games like "Master of Orion 2" to appreciate anything less than perfection, however still I didn't particularly enjoy the game. It isn't particularly bad, but I didn't find anything particularly enjoyable either. The campaign is short (few missions) and somehow dispersive. I played it once (elf campaign) and didn't feel the need for another run, so that's why I don't feel like promoting this game. At some point I started to use cheats simply to get quickly to the end. The interface is not convincing and the turn based system seems planned to slow down the user, rather than carefully planning strategies. The fact that it tries to compel the user to be online is another annoying factor. I would consider it a major flaw if it was a great game. Being somehow a half-rated production, sincerely, I couldn't care less. I don't think I'm going to play it again anytime in the future.

Incredible investment

Amazing game, you will not regret buying. Anyone considering this should buy because it is a worthy investment both for your money and for your time spent as a gamer on this top quality product/company.

Its not heroes of might and magic

I bought this game after reading the reviews and watching the gameplay, still believing that it is similar to Heroes of Might and Magic. When I began my journey to explore this hype given of this game, there was where my disappointment came. Yes, its layout and idea are very similar to HMM but the towns and gameplay felt a lot more of Civilization. One example would be your town can be build anywhere and expand where HMM towns are fixed. The battle between each heroes/creatures are different too, it is more of a complex mechanics which I try to adapt but concluded with a dislike. I would describe it with more of a real time + turn based than an old time turn based battle. I would still prefer the simple mechanic battle in HMM. The game itself isnt bad on its own, its pretty a good game, just not my type of game.

got lost..

To me it seems AOW got lost a little on this one, I believe it is through the character portrayals. The first stories of good vs. evil were really entertaining, however now, cuddly orcs and vicious halflings have left the game feeling a little bland. The mechanics of the game evolved well and came into line and may even have exceeded other similar titles, the graphics are beautiful. The fact remains however, if a man crams himself under a mountainside, if he does it ad is well behaved, he evolves into a dwarf, if he does so and is naughty, he becomes a goblin (the same contrast applies to elves and orcs). After this, the creators made Planetfall by the same name, as sense of neutral morality is not ill conceived here, but I think they have a grudge against Ancient Greeks, Tolkien, Vikings and a host of others. I have read the review of Age Of Wonders 4, it would seem the new fantasy lore is to remain in force, it is unlikely I will purchase it on this simply premise, I would give this game 3-stars on personal feeling, but feel that the creators of the engine that power the game, deserve their recognition.

Standard and no more

It's quite standard fantasy-TBS that pretends having kept the best traits of previous parts of the series but it has lost them in fact. "Spiritual successor of Master of Magic" claims are out of question and are far from reality. I won't talk about AI issues, and overall poor optimization and balancing because it could be repaired with patches and DLCs. But there is a number of controversial designing decisions (hero class system, new battle view and mechanics, and some other) that are irreversible, and they are making this game worse than its parents (AoW 1&2) in terms of unique traits that this series had. So now it's a game without any outstanding or catchy features. If you are new to the AoW series, you might like it. If you are fantasy TBS-veteran who remember Master of Magic, Disciples, Warlords, HoMM and even previous AoW games - you might find this game rather unsufficiently charming.
