Seems to me these titles have not been taken care of well. I cannot get Zork Nemesis to run properly with ScummVM, Zengine, or DosBox without super slow cutscenes that are choppy slideshows and out of sync with the audio. And super fast panning with a tiny window inside your window with huge black borders all the way around that take up 60% or something of your screen space in said window.

Im pretty appauled I can pay for a game here, and it be in such poor shape.
Sounds like they're all using the wrong rendering type.

You could either experiment with the settings yourself, or tell which ones are currently in use, from what you can glean.

I have tried everything I can think of. It just doesnt run properly in dosbox. It does run decent enough in ScuumVM, but get even getting it to work again I lost patience with it and gave up.
Ok so about using ScummVM to fix the panning speed, and have the drop down menu, as well as cutscenes that arent full of black sideways lines.

Dont use ScummVM for Zork Nemesis. Because there is a game breaking bug when you try to finish the Castle level. It breaks the game, and you cannot complete the game at all.

So disappointed. Because it actually makes the game alot better than the dosbox from GOG makes it. But I have wasted all my time playing through it, because I cant complete the friggin game in ScummVM, and cant change the save over to dosbox to complete it. Which would make the cutscenes look like garbage anyways.

Such a waste. Would really like to have the Win 95 version of this, so its not a garbage title. But as is, its pretty awful. Cant fullscreen, cant play at all without huge black borders, panning speed, cut scenes look bad, ScummVM fixes most of these issues, but you cant complete the game on it. So, im just going to mark this one as completed, and never ever play it again.

I played through the game in ScummVM once, and didn't notice any game-breaking bugs back then. Of course, a lot of things may have happened since then. Also, there have been a couple of bugs found in the scripts that would only trigger under very particular circumstances. ScummVM tries to work around those, but of course only after they were found or pointed out by someone.

So if you have a savegame before the bug happens, and steps to reproduce it, it would be very useful if you could file a bug report in the ScummVM bug tracker.
Filing a bug report for them requires me to sign up for github, I dont want more emails for whatevers. I am unable to cool the iron at the end of the castle level at all. I have done all 3 of the other areas, but the castle when you try to use the fans on the iron, it never actually cools. So you cant look at the symbol and progress. I already removed Zork Nemesis from my hard drive, and deleted it from ScummVM. So i doubt the saves are still there anyways.

I am kind of puzzled, because the other day I installed Zork Grand Inquisitor to see what it was like. And it is packed with ScummVM player instead of DosBox. Zork Nemesis deserves the same treatment, its a classic.

I just played through the castle area (the one where you have to travel to the final destination by tank), but not the others, in ScummVM, and I had no problem with the iron and the fans. Now, it's perfectly possible that you've found a particular set of circumstances that does trigger a bug, but unless someone can find a reliably way of reproducing them it's unlikely to ever get fixed...
When i did the castle it was the last place I did. I did all the other areas before that one. I have no idea what triggered it. But crap happens. *shrugs
