Seeing this on gog got me to thinking about reinstaling it from my CD. It would not install unless I went to diagnostic (safe) mode which I acsessed from Start/acsess programs and files and typed msconfig. Once in diagnostic startup I was able to install the game and then went back to my normal windows startup.
Thought this may be helpful to others...may still pick up the gog version because it has the expansion included!
