Simple question, which is the better game in your opinion, and why?

Don't say both! (although I probably will buy both of them anyway)

I would go for Zeus. Both are good, but the build time for the pyramids is just a bit too long.
Personally, i would pick Zeus only because it's the newer of the 2 games and some of the tweaks made to the core system are better. Also, for some reason I liked the Tutorial system in Zeus....

I too would go with Zeus. Granted, Pharaoh was one of my favorites back in my childhood. But I like the mythological stuff a lot more in Zeus, and seems a bit more strategy oriented (but still mostly focus on city building).

And like said...it is newer of the bunch, and like Beakie said...the tutorial is a lot better. And yeah, the core system just works more.

Both are good, but go with Zeus if you have to choose one of them. And if it matters, for me, Pharaoh seemed a lot harder than Zeus. So if you are new to the series, Zeus is probably a better choice...but that could also be because I was really young when I played Pharaoh.
I dunno, I have more memories of Pharaoh so that might colour my opinion, but I suppose the others are right that Zeus is more refined.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I bought both in the end, although haven't had chance to play either yet.

I played Caesar 3 back in the day, so hopefully have a rough idea of what to expect. I've always been drawn to games set in the classical/ancient history eras - Rome is by far my favourite in the Total War series, as is the original Age of Empires. Ancient Egypt I find particularly compelling as a setting, and I love the idea of Zeus having a mythological bent =D
