Falcom has announced Ys X: Proud Nordics, a significantly upgraded version of Ys X: Nordics, featuring a new story, new setting, and numerous new elements. It will launch in 2025 in Japan. Platforms were not announced.

Ys X launched in the West a little under two months ago, so this is certainly a striking sales tactic. Nobody has any idea whether this'll be available as an upgrade.
Based on steam numbers (which is only in the 4 digits if I remember), I don't think any "success" in the west mattered, and that they would've done this regardless.

I do hope that if this version comes westside, that people who at least bought it digitally can get it upgraded for cheaper, but based on other people's comments, it sounds like that will never happen
Well - I have to be honest here. I am a guy that always buy the games I like. I payed for Ys X and are happy with it.

However - If they do not offer this upgrade for a reasonable price (say €10 to €15 max), then I won't buy the game. And it will make me so pissed-off that I will obtain the game "by other means". I never ever do that with publishers I like (Falcom in this case), but if they going to act like jerks, then I going to act like a jerk too. It's sad, because Falcom is one of my favorite game developers. But if they want to take a arm and a leg from people that always supported them by buying their games, then they have lost their credibility in my eyes.

Hell - Even Gust with their Atelier series gave the DX update for their older games for free (I would love to see the Atelier series here on GOG by the way). So if GUST and their parent Koei tecmo is able to treat their customers right, then sure Falcom/Nisa could do the same?

For now I wait until we get some more news about this case. I hope they do the right thing, otherwise I would be really highly disappointed. Let's hope for the best...

ATLUS did it first with the Persona games so probably it seems Falcom got jealous. Anyway I would also love for KOEI Tecmo games to come here. They don't have any big DRM like denuvo so it could be possible if GOG wanted to strike a deal with them. But looking at the GOG dreamlist it seems there is not much interested for KOEI Tecmo games (I am very interested in the Toukiden games)
I don't know, I kind of liked the story and gameplay as is. Super simple and fluid combat much more akin to the earily hack and slash Falcom games than the modern Ys titles. In the other games spamming flash guards and evade started to become boring on difficulty above hard due to how rapidly enemies tend to attack practically letting you be invincible the whole time. This new guard and counter works for me better, it isn't getting monotonous somehow.

I heard that a lot of players were disappointed by the final boss but honestly I think this is by far the best final boss I have ever fought. Finally an enemy that isn't a pattern heavy damage sponge that you fight by finding the right timing and then repeat that. It was more like a test of reflex and guts as his timings wasn't calculatable.

I feel like this game needs no changes. Maybe adding infinity mode, or the option to preserve skill levels for NG+ without keeping the player levels to get rid of a second time skill-use farming.

“At present, a release has been confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, and a web commercial is now available,” the Falcom representative said. “Plans for other platforms, such as PlayStation 5 and PC, have yet to be determined.”

I can think of two major examples of game companies creating an enhanced version of a game after release.
First, Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal. Royal added a new potential party member, added new areas of town to visit, several new mini-games, a new dungeon exploration mechanic as well as tweaks of all previous dungeons to accommodate the new characters and mechanics, as well as several completely new dungeons and a pretty major plot expansion. Some regions had the option to buy Royal Edition content as an expansion to their game but unfortunately not mine. I had to buy Royal as a completely new game. My version was the English/Japanese version off Playstation Store. I actually did not mind too much as I consider Persona 5 one of the finest jrpgs ever made and I kind of treasure both experiences. Persona 5 Royal is very different from the original Persona 5. At least two existing supporting characters had to be recast due to the passing of their original voice actors. Persona 5 Royal was released in the middle of the Covid lockdown.

The second example would be Dragon Quest 11 Echoes of an Elusive Age and Dragon Quest 11 Definitive Edition. I haven't gotten the Definitive Edition yet but it apparently added a lot more individual scenes with your party members with the opportunity to raise affinity with them and getting endings with each of them. In the original version, the ending is fixed. I do not remember seeing Definitive Edition content as an add-on to the original Dragon Quest 11. It would be an instant buy for me if Dragon Quest 11 Definitive Edition ever came to GOG.

Well, here's hoping Proud Nordics comes here as an add-on to the original Nordics sooner rather than later. I seriously enjoyed Ys 9 Monstrum Nox and picked up Ys X Nordics as soon as it came on sale this summer. It's pretty fun. My only regret is it's lack of romance options like in Persona 5. Seriously.
My favorite female character in Monstrum Nox's only interactions with Adol is for Adol to teasingly push her into the arms of her childhood friend. The end of that game was especially bittersweet for me. Even the supposed main female lead there kind of lacked character development with Adol. Literally a background character. A lot could have been done between Adol and her in terms of facing her true nature, or what direction to take in the end with regards to how to deal with their situation or her dad, etc. I feel like i missed a lot of hidden events with her that may have ended things more emotionally than just a handshake. Enough to make me doubt that i got max affinity with her.{/SPOILER] I kind of expect something similar for Nordics. They're REALLY pushing the sibling vibe here. And they made the heroine almost painfully cute visually but a total bro character-wise. A bromance except one of them is a sis. Huh. I'm still looking forward to a good time.
If you're hoping for an explicit romance path in an Ys game, you're in for a frustrating time.

Hahaha. I know. This is what this particular series is famous for. Heroines that scream "love of your life" and "happily ever after" except they're not. I kind of think at the end of this series, you'll get that ending like in the last Sakura Taisen or Golden Boy, where all the potential heroines throughout the series wind up chasing Adol angrily into the sunset.

Nordics got me good though.
That beautiful sunrise scene. Hnnngggghhhh. I hope Proud Nordics has a lot more bond scenes like this. The whole cast is so charming. Maybe there's a way to heal that mercenary kid's Dad? I feel like it's too similar to what happened to that other Nordic, the husband of one of the Peers who also lost his ability to fight. Maybe the two of them should have met up. I wonder how much influence you have on how the story turns out based on those choices you make throughout the story? Honestly, why did Monstrum Nox not have bond scenes with the so-called main heroine? Also, I am seriously tempted to get Celceta next. Is it earmarked for a remake?
Reportedly the Switch version ('Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta') has a redone soundtrack and 'high-definition remastering', but it's fundamentally the same game.
