Hi all,

I don't know if anyone else has had the same issues, I couldn't see an example of the same error. But I've installed XIII and applied the XIII 1.4.2.1 patch. This has set up the XII.ini and DefUser.ini with the resolution and FOV settings for my monitor:

WindowedViewportX=800
WindowedViewportY=600
FullscreenViewportX=1680
FullscreenViewportY=1050

DesiredFOV=95.430000
DefaultFOV=95.430000

I've also edited the XIII.ini to change:

UseVSync=False
ReduceMouseLag=False

But I'm still getting an error when trying to launch this same:

General protection fault!

History: UD3DRenderDevice::Present

I'm not really sure what else to change for this. Anyone had any similar issues, or any ideas about what else might be the problem? Thanks!

your pc may have some files missing that are required to run the game. it should work on most PCs without the need for patches though. try reinstalling the game without modiying any ini files first.

Hi, thanks for the advice!

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, and now getting a slightly different error:

General protection fault!

History: UD3DRenderDevice::ReadPixels <- UD3DRenderDevice::Present

Is it worth going through the steps of updating the .ini files again and seeing if this helps?

It appears to be starting to play the intro movies as I can hear some sound just before it crashes back to the desktop. Thanks again for the help with this.
1) Ensure that the latest GPU driver is installed.

2) Try with a different resolution supported by your monitor.

3) If it still crashes, switch to window mode.

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
...
StartupFullscreen=False
install the xiii+ all in one installer patch.
Hi all,

Thanks again for all the help with this.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing. Which gives me the slightly longer error:

General protection fault!
History: UD3DRenderDevice::ReadPixels <- UD3DRenderDevice::Present

I've re-applied the 1.4.2.1 patch and am still getting the error:

General protection fault!
History: UD3DRenderDevice::Present

I've tried re-installing Direct X, K-Lite and Bink as recommended on the support page. I've also tried multiple different resolutions and running in compatibility mode for 98, XP service pack 2 and 3, and Vista. I've also tried running disabling full screen as suggested, but still getting the same error.

I don't know if there's anything else that's worth trying or if I just give up and ask for a refund as I can't run it? Thanks again!
1.4.2.1. helped, but still wasn't ideal for me. Game was still running too fast, without a DX Wrapper. Basically, it wasn't V-syncing at all to top me out & cap me out at 60fps.

I got it going basically by tossing DGVoodoo on top (into the game-folder) and configuring DGVoodoo up for that game in particular.

Did you try that?

Remember, XIII is an older DirectX game. And a lot of those, DGVoodoo can help get them running properly.

While DGVoodoo can hurt performance, but it could stabalize the heck out of game....so it actually works. It's basically helped me get NWN2; XIII; Dungeon Siege 1+2; and Space Siege going properly.

Thank you so much! I added in the D3D files and it launched instantly! I'll need to do some tweaking to update the resolution but it's finally launching. Thanks MysterD!

You're very welcome.
And glad to have helped you get it going! :)

I had issues myself - and well, this is what helped me get this game going.

While sometimes doing all kind of patching and modding can help - sometimes, it's that last thing of tossing DGVoodoo or some DX Wrapper on top just to get it running & stable.
