Hey,
I remember that the original TFTD game had the problem that unless you followed the exact path on a research tree, you could miss out on most of the tech important to finishing the game. Is this version patched so I can research stuff in a non-linear order?
I'm going to start a TFTD game and also would like to know if this problem is fixed to use (or not) Openxcom.
It's the unpatched version, so if you can, use mods to get over the bugs.
Okay then, thanks for checking this.
There's also openXcom, which AFAIK fixes all of the originals' bugs.
Read this: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php/TRTBAG (the GoG version is TFTD v2.1).
OpenXcom is not affected by research bugs.
Just started a game, and the Magnetic navigation research bug is fixed, not so on the steam version. God work GOG

Other bugs I dont know about is, The Deep one bug (to get Ion armor), the MC reader bug (If u dont have MC reader, no mc Disruptor tec), and finaly the tasoth commander tech (No latest flying sub).

Please repport if theese still exist.

Just fininshed a game...the Deep One problem is still there, but I think I had a different problem.

I researched a deep one corpse, and it said that I could research Aqua Plastics, yet the Plastics didn't show up in the research queue. Obviously, without plastics, I can't get get the armor, ships, or reach the end game.

I don't think I researched the live Deep One first (which is what causes the issue) but I don't remember.

So I had to use the Hack to get all research. Which sucks because then there's nothing left to research in the game, and it feels like I didn't get the whole game experience - but I sure as heck was not about to start over with gauss weapons again! :P

But I remember now why I only played TFTD once all the way through - that end game is brutally boring (level 3 anyway). It's torture running a squad of 18+ guys through the labyrinth of nothing... :)
Hey, tigerwylde1.

I've just tried what you said in my current game and I didn't have any problem, after researching the deep one corpse the aqua plastic appeared as an option to investigate.

It's possible that there is another condition that could "break" those research options?

I ask because I don't want to find one of those, I don't have too much time to play and I wouldn't like to have to restart the game.

P.S Thanks for the link SupSuper.

Did you have aqua plastics in your base storage when you finished researching the dead Deep One? Not having the next researchable item in your inventory causes problems for everything except the Disruptor Pulse Launcher.

Yes I did...I'm thinking I must have researched the live deep one first. I may have thought the opposite of what I was supposed to do (meaning I thought I needed to research the live deep one or else aqua plastics wouldn't show up). I could really see myself doing that :P

I'll play it again someday and find out...but I have to forget the end game first :)
