Is there a scenario/endless mode? I do not own the game and am just wondering if there is a thing such as random generated games after the story.

When you complete the two-part finale mission assaulting the alien base at Cydonia, you are treated to a short epilogue, then returned to the main menu. As long as you do not assault Cydonia, nor trigger a loss condition, the game can continue indefinitely.
OpenXCom also has a mode for freestanding battles, independent of a campaign.
