Howdy all, I had a question I was hoping somebody in the forums could help me out. I am playing XCOM the resourceful perk and cannot seem to get very many scientists. This in turn is making research very difficult. And yes I have built a lab. Does anyone know how to speed up this process? Thanks to anyone who helps me in advance.

Each lab adds additional scientists I think, with a bonus for placing multiples adjacent to each other. You can also get awarded some for completing abduction missions in certain locations. You could choose which of the three locations to go to based on the reward, though I usually go to wherever panic is highest, as completing the mission lowers panic in that location but raises it in the other two. Each continent selectable at the begining of a game grants a different bonus/discount to some aspect. I picked Europe for the discount on labs and workshops, and research completes much faster than I can use it. Money was an issue because I neglected satellites early on, and these are apparently the most important thing in the game as they determine what monthly income you'll be working with.

So, the short answer would be, you need more than one lab, and putting them next to, above, or below another lab helps.

This is all true except for the labs giving scientists. Not true, they only speed up research 20% + 10% for each adjacent lab, if any. Workshops give 5 engineers each, though. Important at the start of the game, not much so later.
Do xenobiology ASAP so you can start getting council requests for sectoids. They will give you a scientist each, usually for 6 sectoids but sometimes for more. So don't sell sectoids, and farm their corpses as soon as you possibly can. Other corpses can get you scientists too, but don't sell too many thin men, as they are used in many projects.

All that goes double for the Long War mod.
