I just started with XCOM: Enemy Unknown and realized that after years of playing RPGs, I really can't handle the conventions of strategy games anymore. ;( Therefore a very trivial question:

How does (automatic) saving work?

According to the picture, a difference is made between the base and the operations. My assumption, that the game will be saved after every mission or move in the mission, is obviously wrong. :( And when is the game saved in the base?

Are there really only 5 slots for auto save and quick save? Can I really not give names to my Menu > Save Game savegames? I guess the manual saves are not deleted automatically, right?

Because I don't know that, I don't really dare to try things. ;(
