Cheers folks!

Yeah, so i'm basically almost done with this game and enjoyed it quite a lot. Until i ran into this weird problem. I'm going to start the last mission, i can pick my squad, then the cut scene starts and at some point (not always the exact same though) my whole computer immediately shuts down and reboots.

I've did my google search and found some solutions, none of them worked though. I have set the graphics settings to minimum, i have deactivated auto-save and i have verifyed my installation... with no effect, the bug still occurs.

So, is there some magic fix for this? I'd love to finish the game properly while i'm at it. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.

bye
Dave

oh, and of course i have updated the drivers for my graphics card and all... just to make that clear. :)

Well, first of all... is this machine you are playing on NEW?

I mean, did you play games on the very same PC before, or you recently upgraded something?

Without any further info from you, it seems to me a case of under powered PC, where the GPU begins to suck the life out of your power supply and the latter is failing to provide enough wattage. No game bug in the world shuts down a PC, as far as I know.

Which GPU/CPU/ power supply do you have?

Hiya! Thanks for your reply. Well, my PC is definitely not new, but still runs tons of games flawlessly, old and new, no problems. And i have been playing XCOM 2 up to the very final mission without issues, so i don't think it is related to the hardware per se. Plus i've tried to fumble around with graphics settings and all, to reduce the load on the system - without success.

That PC shutdown bug before the very last mission in XCOM 2 seems to be a known bug that many players experience. Therefore i have found some info and workarounds online already, but none of them worked for me. :(

anyway, here's my specs:

Intel i5 3570
16GB RAM
Radeon RX480
Win10

I see your CPU is an unlocked one (i5 3570K, right?). I know this might be far fetched, but some games are really (and I mean REALLY) sensitive to CPU frequency stability and stuff like that.

For example, I got a i5 10600K two years ago, and at first I thought everything was fine, but some games were crashing a lot. I blamed the games, of course. Then, I discovered that games were crashing because of an unstable configuration by default. After messing around with voltage/clock ratio/LLC and the like... EVERY FRICKING GAME was stable as a rock. Not a single game crash since then.
(unstability might happen on specific game engines, or even after years, if the CPU starts degrading and degradation might be silicon fault. Just google "silicon lottery" if you don't know what I mean)

Unfortunately, I don't have any easy solution, but if anything else does not work, it might VERY worth it.

If you feel brave (or have some experience with BIOS tweaking) I might give you few tips, but the specific steps are dependent on the model of mainboard you have.

Cheers

Oh wow, that sounds like a little bit of magic to me. :D I would not consider myself brave regarding tweaks on a BIOS-level. :D And i can't compromise this machine in any way, since i do need it for work as well. So that's that...

But i do have a proper mainboard i guess. AsRock Z77 Pro, used to be one of the better ones back then.

That said: I will need a new PC some time soon and maybe try tackling that last mission on that new PC then... i don't know. :D
And yeah, the processor i have here is the i5 3570K as you correctly pointed out.
