There's some instructions in a different thread, but so far I've been having no luck with it. Its possible I'd need to start a new game to make it happen.

Yes, it's possible. I'm using the Long War 2 mod with the GOG version.

Steps how to install:

1) Create a folder called Mods in the game installation folder. If the mod is for the base game it should be in "XcomGame/Mods" or "XCom2-WarOfTheChosen/XcomGame/Mods" for War of the Chosen mods.
2) Edit the file "DefaultModOptions.ini" which can be found in "XcomGame/Config" or "XCom2-WarOfTheChosen/XcomGame/Config".
3) Add the line: ActiveMods="mod name"
4) Save and launch the game
It's definitely possible - see amund's post.

However, most of the mods compatible with War of the Chosen are only on Steam. The Nexus versions were never updated for most, and are only compatible with the base game. Now that Steam isn't the only option for playing the game, is there any chance of getting some of the higher rated quality of life mods for WoTC ported over to Nexus? One of the big appeals to Xcom 2 over Xcom 1 was mod integration. That's impaired at the moment for anything other than the Steam version.

steamworkshop.download

Just copy/paste the URL of any mod on Steam and you'll be able to download it. Works for pretty much every popular mod on there as far as I can tell.

Maybe add what is the actual name of the mod, noticed that some users add the folder name instead of the file name of the mod.

Thanks A LOT!!! It's working fine. I've almost broke my head trying to figure out how to install them without a launcher....
Not happening with 250 mods, that most likely will need a certain order.

I'm not sure who exactly you are replying to, so I write here just for sharing information.

I'm currently running Xcom 2 (gog version, of course) with 33 active mods.
The mods are both from Nexus and Steam Workshop.

I use Vortex for managing the mods (Vortex can be downloaded from the Nexus Mods site).

I also use this tool to download Steam Workshop mods
In this post I have explained how I manage the mods with Vortex.

With Vortex you can easly activate/deactivate mods, and also manage the loading order of the mods.

Thanks for your reply!

The problem is that Vortex doesn't specifically start WOTC, only the main game.
The only way I've found so far, is to manually add all mods. Which is not a problem for most users.
But I'm aiming to play with these mods https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2428752076
I've downloaded them and all that. But having to add them to the config seems like a chore, and I'm quite frustrated, that this seems to be such a "huge" problem. :/
(If I aim Vortex manually at the WOTC folder, it just uses the main game folder)
Hi guys.

I'm running vanilla XCOM 2 (GOG version) - played XCOM on XBOX One for ages but I bought this for the mod scene.

I've manually downloaded mods and I'm having very few issues with the voice acting mods:
- I created the 'Mods' folder
- I rename every mod download folder the same as the .XComMod file names they contain (seems to work better doing this - but also seems unnecessary)
- update DefaultModOptions file with ActiveMods="<insert file name>"

Can't get the .bin files to work.

Thoughts?

path should be in XComGame/Mods/(mod you downloaded)
if you're playing with WotC, there's another XComGame folder inside, so use that.

example would be MCM: XComGame/Mods/wotc_mod_config_menu-->ModConfigMenu.XComMod

So DefaultModOptions.ini should look like:
[Engine.XComModOptions]
ActiveMods="ModConfigMenu"

Also, try downloading AML:
https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher

there's a fix at the end of the Wiki->Faq page that let's you run it even when using GOG:
https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher/wiki/FAQ

It's working for me

For #3:
Steam folders are numbers. Can we change the folder name to the mod name?
Also, does the command Line (#3) search for EvacAll.XComMod (as an example) by the folder name, or the filename?
- (I ask this because if I put spaces in folder names to better track, will that mess it up?

Apologies if this addressed in a later post :)

[UPDATE - 2021/04/11]
I tried both methods and no mods are showing up. I even listed Mod Config Menu first and it does not show up.

Now, to try and get this straight:
This all happening in the folder that contains the actual .exe file, NOT the "My Games" documents folder, right?

There is some weird screwy stuff going on with mods on the GOG version. I've just installed Xcom2 WOTC after a year out, and am going to mod it (again) to see if it'll work and if I can fix it.
