Just downloaded TWP, all available files. Installed and starts ok. However, no sign of any "Albion Prelude". I thought it would be a separate game, either as a separate EXE/Icon, or choice at start of War pack.

Fine if it is a sort of built in DLC for Prelude (or vice versa) but am I missing something?

It can be found in the starting menu. You do start it as if it was its own game. It behaves as a standalone game except for using a lot of the same stuff BUT STATS FOR THINGS HAVE CHANGED compared to X3:TC! Anything you do in one game is NOT reflected in the other. Remember not to leave ANY resources in the war zone. Only you poersonally can go there, not your robot ships.

The icon called 'Terran War Pack' is misnamed as it is Terran Conflict only.

Thanks Themken. I didn't notice anything in the startup for TWP, apart from the joystick and audio/video setup screens. Then the "history" video and straight to "who do you want to be (merchant, assassin etc).

I have since looked in the directory and there are startup icons in the main folder for TWP, TC, and AP. I'll look more carefully for the AP mention when it starts up again.

Unless you can advise where to look?

Oh and thanks for the info on the Terran war pack icon misname. Interesting. I wonder what would happen if I sent the TC and AP icons to the desktop and deleted the TWP one?

Exact location depends on your operating system and whether you are using the Galaxy client or not. On all other computers I have the icons for the two games in the favourites and in Windows 7 I can find them... I will just show you with a picture.

Thanks Themken. As it turns out I found the Albion Prelude exe in the Terran war pack main folder and "sent" it to desktop. It worked! I then renamed the Terran War Pack icon to Terran Conflict and all is well. All I need now is time.

One final question if I may...

My understanding is that the chronology of the story would be Reunion, Prelude, then Conflict. But the release order was Reunion, Conflict then Prelude?

As I mainly want to replicate my old 48k Spectrum Elite days, Prelude would be the best sandbox to play, being the latest release?

Your understanding is incorrect; the chronology of the story is the same as the order of publication.

In my opinion Albion Prelude is the best one to play. But some people like the story missions in Terran Conflict somewhat better. There is at least one mod someplace that allows you to play the Terran Conflict plots within Albion Prelude, I think, but I haven't tried it.

Put another way, the main advantages that AP has over TC are technical. Slightly fewer bugs, better boarding mechanics, better view range, all sorts of little things that add up to a better overall experience. Whereas the main advantages TC has over AP are in the plot/story missions. But personally I think the story missions in AP are adaquate.
I can add that I personally am not too fond of the war zone in X3AP but there certainly are small improvements that add up, also making the game slightly heavier to run.
