On Windows XP, wf.exe crashes when loading patch.dll

I tried all combinations of settings in the gog launcher, but still doesn't work

I will do it for you: link to the solution. I think they are supposing you have installed the K-Lite Codec Pack (which is probably advisable by the way). The LAV Filters contained in the pack have a blacklisting feature which is very useful if a game crashes during the playback of a video. In order to blacklist a game, follow this guide.
Otherwise you could try by adding the "/NOMOVIES" command line argument to the game's executable. You can't accept your own post as a solution.
