How good was that. Playing old 3D Wolfenstien first time in years. Good to go back even though the graphics are poor.
How great to go back and play a simple shoot'em....Mein Leben indeed:))
Yeah, despite age and crude graphics, it's still as satisfying as ever to run down narrow corridors ripping through nazis.

Doom may be the superior game, but Wolfenstein has a charm of its own. (As an aside, I've never played the "Lost Missions". About time?)

I think crude isn't the right word. The graphics are low resolution, but nicely drawn.

Probably not. They aren't very good. Most spites and some of the textures are really bad and the level design is even worse.
3D Wolfenstein?
It's basically an arcade game with a First-person perspective. Those arcade-styled games are timeless and fun pick-me-ups.

Sure, for 1992 display standards they're just fine. But they look like crap on modern screens (which isn't the artists fault, of course).

I'll probably still give them a try anyway. I already had them on Steam, but after playing through roughly 80 levels of regular Wolf 3D and Spear of Destiny combined, I really needed a break. Besides, they can't be as bad as Noah's Ark 3D... I mean, at least they give you guns.

I very strongly disagree. I think Noah is better than Wolfenstein. It has two projectile weapons, two powerups (map and backpack) and a built-in minimap. And it doesn't overstay it's welcome, like the nocturnal episodes of Wolfenstein do.

The lost missions are really bad. They feature the worst level design of all more or less official Wolfenstein engine games. They have lots of required secret rooms, that are not easy to find.

Noah has one of those as well, but the minimap combined with the layout of the level reveal the position of the pushwall.

Edit: Oh, and Noah as an excellent difficulty curve.

No, they don't...?

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Truth be told, I haven't played Noah in a long time, and I guess it's an easy target for mockery. Maybe I should check it out again.

Yes, they do...? I guess it could depend on screen size and resolution. Perhaps I should mess around with my display settings? For some reason, Wolf just looks "distorted" to me on larger screens (whereas Doom looks fine to me). Of course, it's a personal taste thing, too.

In DOSBox, set fullresolution to your prefered one.
Then set aspect to true.

At least for me on my on 1920x1080 screen, it looks crisp.

Not got round to playing the lost missions but will give it a go.
Its just good to get back to the simpler games. Too many games now overly complicated, online needed, high end graphic card etc
3D just has good memories of wasted work lunch hours!
It would be good to get the 3D wolfenstein (up the graphics a touch) and add more levels.
