Once upon a time i bought the game on a magazine cover disk. I hadn't played any Wizardry before and at the start of the game i could build up my party completely with predefined characters that where shipped with the game. This was a good start especially for beginners because the character creation process is complicated and takes a very long time.

Were these predefined characters additions by the publishers of the magazine or where they shipped with the original game too? I ask because i am missing them in the GOG version. The roster is completely emtpy at the start of the game.

The demo version of W8 is still available on the net, with the predefined chars only. You cannot create new ones in the demo version.

I bought the CD version in 2001, do not have sharp memory, if they were in or not.

A new party of 6 Characters can be created and assembled within a few minutes, if you use one of the many many template parties in the different forums and guides on Steam. Or you ask for a proposal here in this fred.

I heavily recommend to read the manual upfront, this takes a bit longer than creating the party, but it can avoid lots of frustrations, the ui is not totally intuitive.

not they are still in the game but the gog install doesn't load them because it was set up in correct and tries to place them in the wrong spot... this was reported but gog is gog

anyway you can have my backup copy which includes these starting characters as well as some basic party saves... just delete what you don't need http://www.nibbit.net/assets/wiz8.7z
I have the CD version, I can attest to the premade character being in the game.
5 characters for the roster, Umpani and T'rang fighter, Rapax ranger, Trynnie gadgeteer and an Android Bard,
along with few other tiny appearance modifications that have no impact on game mechanics

Pls check the included readme file for more details.

While nearly all;) files are confirmed to work fine, you will use them on your own risk as usual,
nevertheless report here in case of issues, or provide feedback.

I came looking for the same information. I still have the old CD version and the old manual, which tells me there should be pre-made characters to choose. I fear that ussnorway is correct, and they aren't available on the Gog version. Oh, well, I'll have to put some work into creating my party after all.

No these are characters of species that exist in game
but can not be selected during the character creation process.

Rather sure there is a readme file contained in the archive, in case not:
You can not switch back to the assigned portrait after you selected a different one!
Otherwise they should work fine in game,
although the Trang samurai has not much options for lower armor.

if you have Windows 10 its the game folder i.e where you told Galaxy to install it

the default patch is 001... you need that to run the base game
my files add custom character images and if you want to use them then you need patch 010 as well
the npc folder is just because i sometimes make custom images for them
I just installed Wizardry 8 on my winzodws 7 computer and I find that the premade character are in the GOG version of the game.

yes mate because Windows 7 has a different default location for your documents... when you upgrade to Windows 10 you will have this issue
Thank you for all your replies and sorry for answering so late. After several weeks without answer i forgot about this thread and i use the forum very seldom as you can see. Thank you for uploading!
