Hello everyone,

Just about two months ago, Wizardry 8 inexplicably stopped working on my computer, which had been able to run it without any problems. I've used most of the usual tricks that seem to work for other, including installing the widescreen patch, playing around with 3Dsetup/nGlide, moving the folder to the root directory, etc, but nothing seems to have worked so far.

Does anyone know of anything else I could possibly do to get this game working again? Thank you.
I'd just like to add that I am having the same problem. It simply does not launch on Windows 10.
May be something specific your system. I just launched and ran my existing game no problem.
Hmm, I've had this game on hold for a couple years now but it'll suck if I'm never able to continue my save (should I ever feel like it) after upgrading to Win 10.

Have you tried dgVoodoo2 instead of nGlide?

Could also be something about the sound drivers.
running fine on both my Windows 10 desktop and laptop... sounds like Microsoft may have been helpful with their updates and removed | replaced your Gpu driver?
All my drivers up to date, and as far as I can tell the sound drivers work fine. I haven't yet tried using dgVoodoo2 (I wasn't even aware it was a thing), but I'll give it a shot when I get the chance.

EDIT: I just tried using dgVoodoo2 on my machine and it didn't work. It seems that, unfortunately, my machine simply can't run Wizardry 8 right now.

I tried re configuring my game with that setup, but that didn't work either. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
Try Miles Sound System instead of Creative Labs EAX2
Unfortunately, I've had no luck with Miles Sound System either. Thank you, though.
You probably need to find a cracked cd version of the exe. Windows 10 will not support the cddrom copy protection that wiz 8 had.
Well i do not have the gog version of Wiz8,
but from what i read on this and other forums the exe provided by gog is identical to Wiz9_v124_nocd.exe.
If gogs exe was based on the original exe by Sir Tech,
the modded stuff which requires injection or lua would not work at all in a Gog Wiz8 install,
because madgods Cosmic Forge Editor is designed to work with the nocd exe.
That would make it impossible to get Qusaris Wizardry 8 Reforged Mod and Frosguards White Wolf Mod
running with gogs version of the game.

Some info on the 1st nocd exe and its last derivate,
the 1.26 exe by (afaik) user pokoinik from russian wiz8 community.
The checksums may be different to gogs exe because a byte ot two could have been adapted by gog
(although i dont think so)
but the same file size would be a pretty good indicator that gogs exe is basically the same.

If it works for you, is it Windows 10 Home or Professional?
Might be differences.
I have pro and cannot get it to run
Wizardry 8 works in both Pro and Home copies of Windows 10... my laptop is Home and my Desktop is Pro... i fire this up about once a week

p.s, madgods Cosmic Forge Editor works just fine in Gog version of Wizardry 8... the issue you may get is a missing dll file because Windows 64bit doesn't use that anymore but you can drop the dll into a folder with the Editor.exe and point it to it... 99% of the time it will just see it but some antivirus software will make you point it out

Do you happen to know which dll file it needs to be? I've seen this very problem happen before in the past with previous games and such.
