It's not much of a fix, more like a workaround but if you been playing Wiz 7 and noticed the horrid static ridden sound effects the game has when set to sound blaster(or any other setting for that matter) just simply go into the game's configuration in the game's menu and set it to PC speaker.

As odd as it sounds you will get the actual sound effects static free and not beeps and boops.

Yes, it is an issue with dosbox and its emulator, so minus a new version of dosbox, there is no magical fix to the sound blaster option. And yeah the sounds are the same anyway, since it is emulated through your speaker, it will be fine. Keep music on sound blaster however.
Thanks DCT. It works great for me.

An additional tip for anyone else who wants to try this - I found that when you access the game configuration screen while playing the game (by clicking the floppy disk icon and then choosing configuration from the menu) I was unable to change the Effects option to PC Speaker because the option was locked. However immediately after firing up the game and before loading up your previous save you can access game config from the main menu and you can change the setting as described.

Thanks for this tip. Works great.

For some reason Wiz7 Gold gets slowdowns and generally runs like crap on my Win7 machines, but the DOSbox version is fine but for the bad static sounds on default settings. Now I have no issues with the DOS version.

Thank you for this additional info. I was pulling out my hair trying to figure out why I couldn't change the settings.
