I've gotten started on Wizardry 6, but I have 2 basic interface questions, particularly when fighting:

(1) In the fight screen, there is a list of the monsters (by number per group), but then there is another number at the end of each line...ie, it shows up as something like 3 RAT 1. I know the first number (ie, 3) is the number of enemies, but what does the second number (after the enemy name) mean?

(2) How do I use the keyboard for combat? I tried pressing the first letter, which it said worked for most commands, but it doesn't seem to work. I am using the mouse for now, but I think it would be faster if I knew the keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks!

Sam

1. The first number is the number of enemies in that combat slot. The second number is how many are capable of fighting and not incapacitated due to Sleep, Hold, Paralyze etc.

2. With keyboard use the arrow keys to highlight the desired action and then press Enter. It's much quicker than using the mouse.

#1 solved, thanks!

For #2, I am trying to use the arrow keys, but it doesn't highlight any actions. Is there something else I need to do to enable the keyboard for that part? (I *can* use the keyboard for selecting spell element and level, but for some reason I can't get it to work for selecting the basic action.)
I dunno...maybe you need to configure the game to use keyboard only as input?
Wizardry 6 only shows a visible keyboard navigation indicator when Input is set to Keyboard but that then disables all mouse input. Keyboard menu navigation does still work in Mouse mode but since the indicator is invisible you'd need to basically memorise what steps to take to select the correct action.

Another option would be to play in Keyboard mode for combat and general exploration and then switch to Mouse mode for fiddly things like equipping items.

Thanks! What a strange "bug" (if it is a bug)...I can use the keyboard for everything else, including spellcasting in combat, but switching input modes fixes it? I'll try playing with everything on keyboard for awhile and see if I miss the mouse for non-combat stuff...if so, I'll just deal with it. I appreciate the fast replies, both from you and PetrusOctavianus!
