I was able to complete the "Join Savant", and "Write In Book" endings without a problem. However, there is a strange glitch with the "Tear Out Page" ending. For some reason, that seemingly unimportant being before the Savant/Altheides confrontation, as well as those two beings, all all red (hostile). That's 3 red dots before I even approach the Cosmic Forge. Bela is still green (friendly). Because that unknown being is hostile, when I choose the "Tear out Page" ending, that unknown being (Phoonzang), is also hostile. This results in a "zombie" state, where, after killing the Savant, you can wander around the Cosmic Circle indefinitely, but you can't interact with anything.

Does anybody know what causes this?

Edit: The only way out is to exit the Cosmic Circle, and get into a battle on Ascension Peak. After winning, I returned to the Cosmic Circle, and grabbed the Cobaltine Powerglove that the Dark Savant dropped.

I guess this is the true "good" ending, as Bela survived (no dialogue), The Dark Savant, his evil henchmen, and his phantom form all died, and I grabbed his personal weapon.

Double Edit: I tried out the Dark Savant's Cobaltine Powerglove on 2 Death Wings. I gave it to my Ranger, as he's the best at ranged combat. The 1st Death Wing was killed outright; The 2nd was paralyzed, then killed by the others' ammo.

All in all, an interesting weapon, but the game is now over. The party killed the Savant in 2 rounds, and I was able to handle everything that spawned on the Peak, including level 50 Armegazers. There is nothing left to do with this party.

the tear out page to save "Phoonzang" is a good ending... it should result in him being alive and on your side unless the Dark-S can kill him

its possible you did too many evil things in your play through [or mods] but i have never had the result you got
I don't know what made phoonzang hostile.

However, I believe you can get the glitched state to happen by turning a normally friendly character in the final battle hostile, then winning the fight. I don't remember which ending or who you had to turn hostile to get this to happen, however.

As a side note, my opinion on what the endings could lead to is this:
* Join Savant: Would lead to Wizardry 9. (Case in point: This is the *only* ending to have its own ending video.) Shame that Wizardry 9 was never made, and it doesn't look like it will ever get made.
* Write in Book: The happy ever after ending. No more troubles in the game universe.
* Tear Out Page: This would lead to a radically different universe. In fact, I'd argue that this universe would be different enough to allow for all those Japanese Wizardry spin-offs to happen. The rules of the universe would be completely different. Vi Domina could not exist in this universe, as Valkyries are required to be Neutral, while Vi Domina is clearly Good (see her not liking the Dark Savant, who is clearly Evil).
Location Cosmic Circle is littered with hardcoded stuff that does not show up in CF Editor, i.e. can not be investigated in CF.
E.g the map has no monsters placed, on party arrival the game spawns(hardcoded)
iirc Savant and Aletheides in the arena, Bela waiting at the far away stair,
and, indicated only via X-Ray spell by the green icon on map, Phoonzang in the pillar.
As soon as party steps down the 1st stair onto the path around the arena w DS and A,
a cam drive along the path is triggered and the DS, to be precise NPC ID#193 contained in Monster ID#438 aka DS#34 cc1,
triggers the arena action, the cam drive continues, arena DS vanishes and new DS instance is spawned near forge,
Bela gets script belapath.msf assigned, next party camdrive contiunes to the showdown.

Not sure what exactly caused the glitch, description is not precise enough to determine at what point exactly the action deviated from normal sequence, but i have an example which causes similar outcome,
i.e. UI is blocked except for steering the direction (at least by mouse) while the party has the momentum from last 2 camdrive steps,
and only a battle can resolve that so player gets back the full access to a working UI:

On the path to the arena, do not go down the stairs but step on the right wall instead.
There are invisible physical walls to the front and right which block movement and targeting/ranged attacks,
so move to the very left until your ranged attackers can target the DS.
Kill that instance of the DS, saving the CC version of Aletheides in the process, who stays where he is.
If you then step down the stairs, the cam drive will start as usual, but since the DS in arena can not trigger the follow up events,
the access to ui stays literally off as if we are still in the camdrive,
but the party has momentum which can be steered, so a safe way to get out
is to steer into the area transition to AP, and there to steer into a battle.


Besides, since Phoonzang spawns in the pillar on entry of CC,
we can use the teleport glitch to avoid any confrontation with that nasty DS person at all,
bc a spot on the ramp leading up to the spiderspawn room with the gate button at Lower Monastery is at same X,Y coords, ~50m higher.

This glitch is very strange. When you enter the Cosmic Circle, there are supposed to be 4 lifeforms: Altheides, The Dark Savant, Bela, and an invisible being (which will later become Phoonzang). Under normal circumstances, such as picking the "Join Dark Savant", or "Write In Book" endings, this doesn't matter.

This invisible being, that shows up on your X-Ray radar, later becomes Phoonzang, under the "Tear Out Page" ending. Normally, he would be Friendly to the party, and you would only have to worry about killing the Dark Savant normally (I believe that he is indestructible).

However, due to my last party, what I wound up with was this: A Hostile Dark Savant, Hostile Altheides, and Hostile lifeform (later to become Phoonzang). Bela was still Friendly.

When I approached the Dark Savant/Altheides confrontation, it sometimes resulted in a state where they both attacked me at once (I guess it is possible to save Altheides, after all).

Most of the time, however, it resulted in the normal chain of events, though, with Phoonzang Hostile, I couldn't complete the "Tear Out Page" ending.

What this does, however, is result in a glitched ending, where, as soon as you kill the Dark Savant, he takes his Savant Henchmen, and his alter-ego (Evil Phoonzang), along with him. He drops his Cobaltine PowerGlove as usual, but you can't grab it just yet, as everything is glitched.

You can run around as much as you like in the Cosmic Circle (Bela has no dialogue), but the only fix is to exit through the portal back to Ascension Peak, and fight another battle.

You are now "back to normal". Return to the Cosmic Circle, talk to Bela again (no dialogue), run around as much as you want to, grab the Cobaltine PowerGlove that the Dark Savant dropped, try it out again on enemies.

At this point, the game is over, you have triumphed over the Dark Savant, you have killed all level 50 ArmeGazers in your way, and you have grabbed the Dark Savant's weapon, the Cobaltine PowerGlove. You have truly achieved the "best" ending.
