Can you tell me how to sneak around enemies?

In page 143 of the Offical Hint Book, it says: On your way to the graveyard, cast the X-Ray spell, if you know it, and make sure Myles is leading you party. X-Ray enables you to spot possible adversaries before they see you ( they show up on your radar), and Myles can then help you sneak around them.

I don't really know how to make someone lead my party. Is it by simply selecting his or her portait?
And I am not sure whether Myles alone can lead my party sneak around the enemy, or anyone with high stealth skill can do that.
Besides, I don't know by saying "sneaking around", the Hint Book means how far away I can be from the enemy before being detected.
If you know the answer to any of the three questions, please instruct me. Thank you in advance!

Only way of sneaking around that I remember is casting Chameleon (or drinking a potion with that effect). No idea what's this hint about Miles, but maybe I'm missing something.
Stealth skill has nothing to do with it.
