Hello, so so far I've rooted my game into the C:\ drive, and I have the game installed, but when I try to run it by typing C:\DS.EXE to initiate the game, it says ERROR 10 LOADING OVERLAY: VINIT.

how can I fix this?

Change video mode from Overlay to something else?
But why start the game by typing? The installer will make a shortcut to the desktop for you.

I'm not running it on gog I'm using a physical copy

You either need to setup DosBox properly for it or, if you've done it, your physical copy is busted.
Just buy it on GOG, it is inexpensive and no hassle.
