First I'm happy to see an update of this awesome game. I remember playing this on my C64 and it was awesome.
My question is in regards to the automap and the fact that it does not retain your map info when you leave the dungeon area. Its not a huge issue but a pain to deal with. Maybe its a setting im missing?
(Assuming you're playing the recent Digital Eclipse remake)

I believe that you can retrieve your map by casting the DUMAPIC spell when you re-enter the dungeon or the floor in question. It will show you the map that's been reviewed, and also restore (and correct) the mini-map.

(DUMAPIC is a 1st level Mage spell. It unfortunately isn't one of the spells you start with.)
Like dtgreene said, the 1st level Mage spell DUMAPIC is needed.
Each time you enter the dungeon the automap will start anew. Each step you have done in the dungeon is saved and as soon as you cast DUMAPIC your stored movements will be considered and displayed. In short: with DUMAPIC you get your old progress back. That means each time you enter a level, cast DUMAPIC first.
And a tip, if your automap looks weird cast DUMAPIC again to correct the automap. That can happen if you step over an rotator or an Teleporter.
To go along with the other info on re-casting 'DUMAPIC' in order to show the explored dungeon level again, you can also hit 'Left Cntrl' key to see what was shown of the map the last time the spell was cast. But, it's worth noting, in the 'Old-School' settings, you need to have enabled the DUMAPIC option. If you have it all set to the original game settings, it doesn't save your map once you leave the dungeon.

Onto my question...

I originally started a game and chose the old 'Console' option--which gives you an updated dungeon levels design to how it was on the original Console version. Later, I wanted to play using the old PC (Apple) version for the original dungeon layout only to discover there's no way to switch--have to start a new game since it's an option only available at that time. So, I started a new game, chose the old Apple / PC version (original) for the dungeon design. But, it failed to switch back to that design. Anyone else experience this? Do I need to completely wipe my old saves before starting a new game so those don't somehow keep it reverting to the console dungeon design?

Edit: Nevermind! Apparently, a site I looked up maps on wasn't real clear which maps were for which versions of the game and I had been thinking the dungeon I was in was the sNES version (Console) when it was actually the "Original" version. Confusion solved thx to someone posting reply in Steam forum.
