I wanted to pick up and play this game again, but in between that time and this time, I got a newer and better computer. The result is now the game runs way too fast and its too hard to actually adjust to this, getting me killed almost instantly. In addition, the pointer seems to be really sluggish regardless if I use the keyboard or the mouse.

If there's a setting I can change or something I can fiddle with to fix this, I'm all for listening.

Doxbox should be on a fixed cycle count for this, I don't remember the amount at the moment but it should be something under 10.000 cycles.

WC1 is one of those games that really struggles with proper timing in DOSBOX... in menus and "quiet" combat situations, you end up getting the game too fast, and need to tone down the cycles; when the battle rages and there are a few more ships around, it crawls and you have to speed the CPU again. You are gonna end up using those CTRL+F11 and CTRL+F12 shortcuts a lot

Start around 4000 cycles and tweak from that

You legit own this game, so do yourself a favor and go to an abandonware site and get the Windows edition of "Wing Commander Kilrathi Saga". Install WC1 from the disc image, then download and copy the files from https://github.com/Bekenn/wcdx/releases/tag/1.2 into the game directory.

This fixes Wing Commander 1 Windows port to work flawlessly on all versions of Windows through Win 10.
