Game just does not launch after that message. I have Master of Orion 1+2 and that works just fine on my computer.

Any clue?

Same here. I found that if I install my own dosbox and just copy the wc and wc2 folders over to a seperate mounted game folder and manually run the exe file, it runs fine. However, the sound effects are musical, not sound effects, weird.

I just found that if you go to your start menu, under gog for the game, there is a graphic mode setup, change the drop down to direct3d and it worked for me in win7. still have music for sound effects though.

I had this problem also and did a right click, run as admin and it worked.
drhoads' fix (above this post) worked for me!
I had the same problem. I did what drhoads said and it worked. Thanks everyone.
phunction's solution didn't work for me, but drhoads' did. Thank you.
Running as administrator also fixed my problem.
