Hi,

how can I re-configure WC2 to use a real Roland MT-32 and Sound Blaster? The dosbox config file is correctly setup to use the correct midi device, but the install.exe file to update sound config seems to be missing.

I guess I have to edit the WC2.CFG file, but what values do I have to set?

Using "v r" as in Wing Commander 1 uses my MT32 for music, but there are no speech or SFX.

Thanks,
-Flynn

There is no speech in WC1, never was unless your talking SWC or the SegaCD version, only in parts of WC2. As for SFX, I'd imagine you don't have dosbox set up correctly to relay the data midi data, there is a way, but never having used a real mt32 I'm not sure. I'd go to the dosbox forums at http://vogons.zetafleet.com/ and search there. Shouldn't be hard to find. That question is practically asked every other day.
It's a shame, that the install.exe is not included in this release. I had to find my original disks which is what I wanted to get around by buying this release. I managed to find the disks, and this is what my wc2.cfg looks using mt32 for music, which just sounds so much better than the anoying adlib-music:

v r c27

I hope this will help.

Thanks, that pointed me to the correct direction. After some hex to decimal conversion and testing, I got Roland and Speech running with following line:

v r816 c25 d1

Many thanks for this. It not only enables MT-32 support, but also Sound Canvas support for General MIDI. I have a SC-88 (in SC-55 mode) and a MT-32, both of which work with this "v r816 c25 d1" line for the cfg file.

AWESOME! This is exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks!

I do wish the installer's were included in the GOG Releases. Not including them is a big annoyance to those of us with actual MIDI Hardware.
Where do you put those commands?

Gee I hate these threads which offer a trinket ot advice then don't tell you where to put the adjustments.
Does my head in.

Where in the CFG file FFS?

Terrible STICKY mods.

Does not show a solution at all ,only part of the solution.
Where do you put those commands in the WC 2 CFG file???????????????????????????????

HOW CAN THIS THREAD SHOW SOLVED WHEN THE ANSWER IS PARTLY SOLVED?

WHERE DOES THIS GO? v r816 c25 d1

YOU SAID THE WC 2 CONFIG FILE BUT WHERE IN THE WC 2 CONFIG FILE??????????

I can't find ANYWHERE where this goes.

Seems to be a trend with alot of forums these days to show SOLVED and only show PART OF THE SOLUTION.

LITERALLY GOING INSANE AS I CAN"T FIND ANY INFO ON THIS.

The answer is in the solution post, not the first post.
Edit wc2.cfg in the installation folder and replace its contents with v r c27

For Windows the default location for wc2.cfg is C:\GOG Games\Wing Commander 1 and 2\WC2
Wing Commander 2 actually includes INSTALL.EXE, INSTALL1.EXE (for Secret Operations 1) and INSTALL2.EXE (for Secret Operations 2).

Any of this installers will allow to choose from:

- No sound
- Adlib
- Sound Blaster
- Roland MT-32
- Speech / No Speech

and write the changes in WC2.CFG

Editing the WC2.CFG is therefore not really necessary. But I can see how this is easier when using DOSBox. To run INSTALL.EXE via DOSBox you would need to create a separate shortcut.
