Seems like someone here may have some advice. I have a Wingman Extreme which is fairly cool and also fairly old. I found and installed the Logitech profiler and set it up, calibrated and tested, working fine. The problem is no games seem to detect it, I have tried Privateer, Freespace 2, the Babylon Project and BC2, nothing. It doesn't work or even allow me to bind controls.

It seems like it is too outdated for Logitech support. I am using the gameport to USB adapter and like I said it seems to be working fine until I load a game. I have set it to the preferred controller for older games in the windows settings over my 360 controller.

Is this something simple I am overlooking?

I don't know how to "enable" you joystick for those games but for Privateer I'm recommending mouse. Joysticks have some problem with "dead zone" (DosBox problem) and shooting to ships in Priv is very hard and annoying in long term.

I've noticed that sometimes setting the preferred controller doesn't always work properly. Have you tried disconnecting the 360 controller and then trying again just to rule out that possibility?

That said, I've actually been using the 360 controller over my own flightstick in Privateer due to the dead zone issue TPR mentioned. The dead zone in dosbox/Privateer actually seems to be tolerable with the 360 controller's analog stick, but, it makes things pretty rough with the flightstick. YMMV.
To get my joystick working in Freespace 2 I had to use the Freespace Open Launcher, which is a wonderful little launcher made by the Freespace community. I don't know where to get the launcher by itself but you can use the FSO installer which includes it and a few other things that comes highly recommended. It's only a 20 MB download and it will improve you Freespace 2 experience and may even get that controller going in the game. You can get the FSO installer at http://www.fsoinstaller.com/downloads.html.

As for Privateer, I haven't tried it so I can't help much. The last space game on dosbox I played didn't have the dead zone issue the last couple of posters mentioned. So I can't assist you at all for that game.
Thanks for the replies. I did try disconnecting the 360 controller to no avail. I have the FSO installed, I downloaded the Babylon Project and it looks awesome in FSO, still no luck on the stick though. I may have to suck it up and get a new one. I find the 360 controller very twitchy in FSO. I will try the mouse in Privateer though, thanks.

I have Win7 Ultimate 64. I bought a used 360 controller with USB and just plugged it in. It works with no setup or anything. It functions in Privateer but it is so jumpy that combat takes absolutely forever and that's in the Tarsis. I hate to think how the Centurion is going to handle with it, I'll try the mouse.

As far as having the 360 controller I thinks it's totally worthwhile. I was just playing some Tombraider and it is way better. Planning to give Witcher 2 another try with it as well, I've heard it controls way better with the gamepad.
ps 3 controller works as well ;p
