The game is currently crashing in the Pyramid waxwork when it should be playing a death animation. The death in question is in the snake room on the fourth(?) floor when you try and pick up the tile without any fires lit. It crashes completely out with no error messages, in fact with the Horrorsoft advert still printing if you run it from Dosbox manually so it doesn't close automatically.
The exact scene is on a YouTube waxworks death video at 2:14. This is the one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axqRgDkWXA0#t=2m14s

I can get this death scene without crashing... could it be from interference from hardware or some other software?
Backup your save, download waxworks again and try reinstalling it. It sounds like something got corrupt along the way if you have been able to play it so far without problems.
Glad to hear someone has it working - I only thought it could be something other than corruption my end because on page 7 of the youtube video I linked someone is having the exact same crash. Maybe it's not so much corruption, but simply a bug to do with items or other events? The fact that it's so late into the pyramid makes it hard to test.
I'm just glad it's completely unimportant!
EDIT: Groan - it was a bug. I found out I was missing the pot of oil I needed to actually solve the snake puzzle, and enjoyed my long trek back to the *start of the waxwork* to get the pot. I'm impressed I remembered the way - these old games sure taught you locational skills.
And just for curiousities sake, I tried getting killed by the snakes again with the pot of oil, and it actually didn't crash this time. Given that the animation relies on you having a lit pot of oil, I assume the check didn't account for not having the oil at all and faulted out.
To anyone else experiencing this crash in the future - sorry, but you've got a looong hike back to the start and back again, make sure to avoid all the traps on the way back again (like I didn't!)

Hey vinehair,

Thanks for posting the solution! It's relevant even after 6 years from the original posting, lol.

I was so confused when the game crashed on me. This thread should be sticky.
