This should be put as sticky until this is fixed :

How to reproduce:

-need at least 3 custom squad members
-Manage Squad
-remove your first or second starting character
-confirm
-Manage Squad
-add the removed original squad member

=> -7 attributes point to dispatch, 2 in automatic skill, 1 in explosive, everything else lost forever.

-You can thus screw your both of your original squad members.
-No Fix yet
-Verified with the above scenario
-Workaround = never remove any of your 2 original squad member.
-Workaround 2 : your 2 original members are doomed, just remove them, loose major tomcat, and create new char, you lost one level, congrats.

Note from reddit:
-looks like the stats of the bugged char is still in the xml save file, but overridden by a duplicate section

Other Bug:
I did on a 6 sized squad: remove, then add, then i don't know what happened, but "returned" to game with 7 portraits, unable to do any action, ctrl alt del + kill process to continue.

FYI this was finally fixed in the latest/current patch (1.2.x?) which came out late December.

Took them long enough...
