I do not remember the game looking like this. Why is there so much orange in all the textures? Is it a bug? Maybe a bad setting in DOSBox?

Warlords II was released in two different versions. The original game, and a Deluxe Version which was released a year or two after. This is the deluxe version.

The deluxe version have lots of more maps and other new features. It was also made for 256 color screens, unlike the original, which only used 16 colors and a lot of dithering to look more colorful than that. Despite this I think the original game looks better than the newer one.

Unfortunately the version sold by GOG does not include the original game, only the Deluxe Version. I also doubt that it can be bought anywhere else, except in second-hand as a floppy disk. But since you have paid to the creators for this version of it, Iyou shouldn’t feel guilty if you helped yourself to the older version of the game, which seems to be abandoned at this point.

If you haven’t set up a dos game in Dosbox before, it isn’t very hard. You could just copy the dosbox configuration from this game or another one, and edit some files to make it work for a different game.

Having access to both the Deluxe and original version is the best of both worlds, since you can play the original five maps with the original balance and graphics in that game, and use the Deluxe Version to play different maps that have been created afterwards from that program.

Here are some screenshots from the original Warlords 2:
