So I finally got fed up with various things and have started modding the game. Molotov's tools are easy enough, and now various units are actually useful (and things that have never made sense now do, at least to me). So that's much more satisfying.

There are, however, a few things listed I can't figure out when modding units - specifically, the medals column for units - what do the various numbers mean? Higher presumably means more of a chance of a medal, but how exactly?

And that still leaves one thing that really, really annoys me about the game: the diplomacy. Specifically, the way people with zero reason to dislike you at all slowly come to hate you, then declare war on you. This is most notable in the Banewars campaign, as various locals refuse to ally with me (and then slowly decide they hate me and declare war) while the undead slaughter them. And no amount of gold bribery even seems to make a dent in it. Not that it's actually holding back my progress, but it IS annoying.

Short of editing every single scenario and inserting a bias toward the AI not hating my guts, is there any way to mod the diplomacy factors that anyone knows of?

I doubt there is. You should be able to do it by editing scenarios individually, but that's about it. The manual and/or strategy guide have a fairly detailed list of which factors influence diplomacy, but the game designers were wargamers at heart, and didn't put much heed in peaceful coexistence. Warlords just isn't that kind of game. Diplomacy merely exists to stall for time, and maybe make certain factions start wars with your enemies first, but ultimately, everyone will dogpile on you once you become too successful.
