Compatibility mod for Windows 8 in the shortcut seems to fix crashes.

Which Warlords game are you referring to?

If it's Warlords 3 or Darklords all it needed for me was the "ddraw.dll" file from DDrawCompat.
(You might want to rename/backup the original file first before trying)

Version "DDrawCompat-v0.6.0.zip" works a treat for me:

Just pop that inside your game directory "GOG Games\Warlords 3"

For anyone having constant crashes - set the compatibility for the Darklord.exe to windows 7 (most likely win8 will work as well) - this will fix the crashes.

Also be sure to check the directX wrapper settings (you can find it as exe in the folder or start it via the additional executables in the GOG launcher) and change them to your liking, for example I prefer the original 4:3 aspect ratio even if it's not using my full screen.
