I don't have Warlords Battlecry 2 yet off GOG. But I loved the game on CD.

I have Windows 7, Direct X 9.0c, etc. I've got Warlords Battlecry 3 to work fine with the Windows XP compatibility tab.

What I'd like to know is if anybody recently has been able to get WBC 2 to work fine under Windows 7?

I have the old CDs, so if there is a reasonable install solution, I could try that. But the question is mainly about the Gog version, and if you got it to work fine under Windows 7. That way I can know to purchase it in future.

Most of the posts here are about WBC 3. My guess is that I still will prefer WBC 2, because I loved its campaign mode and the RPG like improvement to the main character.

Most posts on the net suggest that WBC 2 does not tend to work with Windows 7, but I have not read them much nor recently. Thanks for your help.

(Yes I could use the search, yes it would take forever, yes the info would be stale. Every Windows Update can break compatibility, etc. Plus I'm already scouring the internet for helping others all day long. So if you know from experience it is much appreciated. If you hate me for not using Search, well I suppose you can get in line.)

As of about four months ago the GOG version installed and played fine at least on 7 64 bit. Although I don't think ironman heros worked last I checked. (they get deleted after going to the main menu)

I'm also using Win 7 64 and could play this. Like roark.kross said, sadly, Ironman heroes don't work, becasue the character is deleted after closing the game. And one point from me - the game says that it supports higher resolution, but in fact it does not. You have to play on smaller ones (althought not the smallest) and I don't have any problem with that. But if you buy the game remember that without mods (I think someone post it here on forum) you will crash if you play on higher ones.

EDIT: Yeah, I check it. The second option in graphics is best for me - the third also works, but cut screen for me. The last, biggest resolution causes game to crash.
And one more thing - you meet the requirements for this game so if you have a problem with the game and Tech. Support can't help you - you can ask for a refund.

No, it does not work. I've tried multiple combinations of Compatibility modes and resolutions, and have never seen a single successful load of any map. Only the menus work.

There are a few threads covering this.

For those who HAVE supposedly played a complete working level, please post EXACTLY what you did to make it work, rather than just saying "it works."

Thanks.
I don't know what to tell you, it pretty much just worked out of the box for me. I installed the game on a different partition than my system partition and use no compatibility settings. I've played games over the network, skirmishes, and the campaign and aside from a crash every now and then it works fine.
So, possibly a mixed bag. That it does work on some Windows 7-64 bit set-ups is heartening. But, I best then try it during a time when I have time to see if it works, just in case.

The game did tend in the past to be most stable in the middle resolutions, so that suggestion does not surprise me. I'll keep in mind the caution about Ironman mode.

I appreciate the answers. Thanks for taking the time to do so.

The only way I could get it to start a game was to set my screen resolution to the same resolution at which I would be running the game -- before launching the game itself.
