This game still has no LAN right? Im not buying this solely for this reason...
I hope they will include LAN support. But same: no LAN, no buy.
high rated
I actually also agree with this, if you're doing a proper remaster of the original game and calling it "Definitive Edition" then a game without LAN multiplayer would be a failed attempt at pleasing the market. LAN multiplayer should NEVER have been removed in the first place.
I regret to inform that it does seem like there is no LAN play. Inexplicable to go to the effort of removing it.

I don't use Galaxy, so even the multiplayer option is greyed out on mine!

One reason to keep my old CD version around I guess...

Pity. Without LAN support I'm much less interested.

Thank you for confirming that Cyker.
And off my wishlist it goes.

This is the worst timeline.

GoG really should change their taglines on the store page:

"DRM free, except for multiplayer where you're forced to use our Galaxy launcher."

This is why I always check before buying on GoG. If a game requires Galaxy in any capacity, no thanks, I'll just buy it on Steam instead. If I'm forced to use some kind of launcher for multiplayer, I might as well use one I like.

agreed. I instantly refunded on steam after knowing lan is still not present
LAN is essentially the hotseat of real time strategy games. It is its multiplayer's alpha and omega. Online is good and everything but the fun starts when you see the face of each other. Just like how much more fun a fighting game if someone sits beside you.

Removed to prevent piracy? Please! The pirates are already playing multiplayer while those who legit bought the game can't. How is this right I will never understand.

I'm not a developer but would it be possible to write a mod that implements Lan multiplayer? Probably not I expect, I understand network code is an absolute pain
The game probably still has hooks for LAN multiplayer, since the original versions all had it built in, they just went to the effort to remove it for reasons I don't understand. It might be possible for someone to recreate the DLLs to hook into it and patch the menu, but it'd be a lot of work and reverse engineering! Definitely not something that'd happen any time soon.

Is the removal of LAN something Steam requires or something? I just don't see why else they'd go to the effort of removing it. If they were beholden to another publisher like Sega or Bethesda or Ubisoft or EA I can imagine the removing of LAN being ordered by them, but if Relic own it lock, stock and barrel now, what's the reasoning...?

The primary reason is to make pirating harder or less rewarding. I doubt Steam itself would request something like this, I'm sure it was the studio's decision on a level.

I heard that they rebuilt the engine. This might be only a marketing slogen though, to make it sound like the game worth more than a simple remake. If the engine really got rebuilt then it is possible the LAN was completely cut out from the code. If the remake is more like a patch, then LAN should be there somewhere, functional at least on code level.
+1 so devs see there is still continued interest in LAN support!
I just refunded the game. It’s a rushed remaster: AI upscale, pathing still sucks, old and new bugs, balance wasn’t touched, and it still runs on one core, which causes lag when too much stuff is going on. Also, no LAN.
