As the topic asks, where is the gate switch?
After the enemy run out of the fire base, the gate closes behind them.
The gate seems to be indestructible. I repeatedly shoot it with heavy bolters, boltguns, plasma guns, and threw krak grenades to no effect. Then I tried power fists and power swords in melee. The gate still stands closed.
I ran my assault marines around the interior walls looking for the lever/switch and couldn't find it.
Damned if I remember the specifics, but this was the map that looked like a castle right? I recall this is why they gave you jump troops, to get over the wall. use the Assault Marines to sweep them out.

There is no switch usable by your troops - I just checked with the editor, just in case my memory was wrong -, but the briefing did instruct you to bring firepower in order to bring it down - and recomm. A single Melta bomb does the trick...
Your issue is that unanimated parts, loosely like in the table top game, are given an Armor rating (just like vehicles) which is way higher than any common animated unit. Especially in the game's second edition, it was a completely seperate system (from common rolls). Which means that you won't get it down basic weapons : it's just a waste of ammo.
You should have a chance with Krak grenades and a little more with Krak missiles. But you can forget Bolt weapons (even the Heavy one, which doesn't pack much punch) or a Plasma Gun.
Now, this isn't a deal breaker in your case, because the mission's objective is simply to kill all Traitor Marines, then step in the temple right in the middle of the fort. Which you can do with your Assault troops... Just remember to loot the chests before leaving the place.

But I suggest you remember after that to always bring a Melta bomb or two. They usually aren't very helpful (although leaving one in a Chaos Space Marine's face with an Assault Marine, before leaving him to die never gets old ^^), but they pack much more punch than 90% of your other weapons, are cheap - you won't need them most of the time - and still can solve that kind of problem.
