"The updated version comes with hi-resolution support and upscaling"

Is this really noticeable difference between original or looks same? Somebody willing to post screenshots for comparison?
I have the same question. I don't see the diffrence. How can I fill up the whole screen if I am running at 1920x1080?

Hi-res/upscaling does not mean hi-res textures, etc. These are *not* remasters.

So, what is the difference? Can you see any difference by using original and this "enchanted"?

It's just compatible with modern stuff, like multi-monitor desktops, alt+tabbing, and all that other stuff. If you've played Warcraft 2 through DOSBOX and so on, it's quite a rough experience. This basically smooths over those issues.

But no, it doesn't make anything higher res or allow you to see more of the screen, and as far as I know, there are no mods for Warcraft 2 that do that.

I have wargus mod in use which allows 1920x1080 resolution. Basicly it´s just zoomed out and widescreen supported, but does the trick for me.

Does wargus work for this port?

If i remember correctly, Wargus need original cd or mounted cd image with program like daemon tool during the installation, so most likely it wont work.

omg that wargus thing is awesome - i just have one minor problem - i'm not getting ingame sound effects. the music is playing but no voices, weapon sounds etc.. in the menu's the mission briefing voice over is working. bummer, because it's everything i wanted. if somone has a tip, please let me know - i think the files may have other names, so wargus cant play them properly...

You need to get the Wargus/Stratagus mod from the Github page and not Wargus.github.io.

Also if you're running the latest version - 2.4.2 - it is buggy. Get version 2.4.1 for both. I use 2.4.1 and it works fine for me.

What is buggy in 2.4.2? Maybe to report an issue to their repo?
I'm thinking about to make some playable builds of wagrus, like "just install and play", just need enough time for that.
It requires several hours for me every time I try to install wargus, but I'd say wargus is still worse for gameplay than original war2 and it's still buggy.
Yes it is a bit buggy but it's a work in progress. I found the best version that matches original Warcraft 2 the closest was Wargus 2.1. Google that and you can simply download and install it.

The only issue with 2.1 is the resolutions are ancient ones and don't go up to 1020x1080. I have the sourcecode for it but need to get the dependencies to compile it on linux for win32.

I am still working out how to.

But the A.I works great and the game feels genuine in 2.1.

But what exactly became buggy in 2.4.2 after 2.4.1? I tried 2.4.2, I got the problem that it unpacks war2 data to app data instead of current directory. Not sure if that's a bug or feature.
Looks like there's not such behavior in 2.3.
Version 2.1 is too old release as for me. Not sure if it's better than 2.4.x though.

Anyway wargus became much better and much more stable than 10 years ago. But some random crashes still happens from time to time.

2.4.2 is a bit weird, because it works first time for me after initial extraction but for me 2.4.2 errors out afterward with the wargus being in appdata.

2.1 was stable but yeah needs more res support. 2.4.1 is the best so far. I will try to find out what happenee between 2.4.1 and 2.4.2.
We are talking about stratagus, right? There's almost nothing to fix in wargus except some scripts.
Most fixes are implemented to stratagus.
What's happened after v2.1? Why are you talking about that version? Looks like the same team of developers, the same engine, so why to stay and freeze on it? I'd follow the code being actively updated.
Still didn't build it from the source code also, not sure need to do that at all, maybe just use the existing built binaries would be enough.
Sad thing is stratagus have not been released for mobile devices. I don't see any reasons to play wargus/stratagus on PC, original war2 is still better and works under wine also perfectly. But wargus could be a perfect way for mobiles, with slightly modified user interface, adapted for touch screen. That's my dream, but stratagus team don't plan to do that...
