Just a heads up, the latest version of the offline installer of Volgarr the Viking II won't run without the Galaxy Client running. I have sent a support request to GoG last night so I am waiting for a reply.

If you run the game without the Galaxy Client running, it will fail and in the Volgarr II log file, it says failed to initialize steam. It looks like their steam_api64.dll file redirects the client checks to the Galaxy client. It will run fine from the galaxy client and also directly from the game .exe, but if you close the galaxy client, a couple of minutes after it is closed you won't be able to start the game directly from the .exe or start menu shortcut.

Follow up: Support has confirmed the bug in the latest version 1.1 of Vulgarr the Viking II. So they rolled back the offline installer to v1.0c. And that has fixed the problem untill they can fix the v1.1 to run without the galaxy client. So if you are having this issue grab the 1.0c installer from your library.

Nope, not according to the gogdb site's info on the game anyways. Offline installer are still rolled back to 1.0c, which misses some fixes from 1.1.

I just checked that, but I was told that info on GOGDB can be inaccurate, though not very often. So I'd prefer to have confirmation from people who own the game as well, just to be completely sure

No updates from GoG, so I just emailed them again to see if there is a time frame on a fix since it's been about 4 months since I asked.

Thanks for patching this. I used galaxy to try the update, and then quit out of galaxy and waited till all the galaxy processes closed, then played the game. It seems to be working now without galaxy running.

Just as a final follow up post. I downloaded the offline installers and reinstalled with them and it works fine without galaxy running.
