This is happening way too often now that i'm in Venice, after a few doors the game decides to crash with a lovely runtime error message.
Any way to fix this?

Try setting the LAA bit on the venetica.exe.

Yes, this seems to have worked, have played the game for a couple of hours now and no crashes

For those who don't know to patch LAA on the .exe, search for "ntcore 4gb patch" on google

definitely did the trick, thanks guys

I use the steam version and when I use the 4GB Patch it just gives me an error when I want to start the game.
