Hey, so. I wander into the Mines at the beginning, and I can't see anything. So, when I naturally use the Torch, it won't illuminate. The torch is lit, but there's no light around me. And I can't see a thing, even when I crank the brightness all the way up. Any suggestions?

Did you equip it? You should have it in your left hand and then it will work.

Yup, it's equipped.

Can you check this video (if it's not enough then also this one) Because perhaps you expect too much? It happened to me too. I though that with a torch everything should be perfectly visible and yet it affected only a small area right next to Christof.

Yeah, the first thing I did was look for videos. I know the game's supposed to be dark, but I can't see anything. There's no light coming from the torch... I've attached a screenshot. The brightness is a bit more increased in the screenshot than in the game, but as you can see, there's no light.

Ok, I think I got it now! Go to options -> display -> advanced options (bottom left) -> dynamic lightblobs. You have to switch it on. When it's off there is no light from the torch.

Even when I do that, there's no solution. Here are two more screenshots. In one you can see how the torch affects Cristof, and in the other you can see my settings.

Try to decrease texture bit depth to 16 bit. You will have to rest the game to apply those settings. If it doesn't change anything switch filtering to bilinear.

That doesn't work either. It's a shame.

One more thing... I've just noticed you have Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. Did you try to disable it and run the game on the normal graphic card?

It's the only graphics card I have on my PC. I know, I know. THEY'RE HORRIBLE. But the game runs smoothly, apart from the problem we're discussing.

Then I'm afraid there is nothing more I can do. Apparently the light is an advanced option and if your card cannot generate it (or switch it off) you will get no light which is utterly stupid but that's how it is. And apparently your card cannot generate it so I'm afraid you will have to struggle without a torch. Unfortunately Josef's Tunnels are also pretty dark...

Well, I made it past the mines, so I think I'll be fine. Thanks for your time, dude! XD
This is a curious issue. I would like to help you try some other "tests" to see what overall problems are occurring. Try enabling console for this test by right-clicking the VTMR shortcut then at the end of the Target line put -console outside of the quotes. The line should look something like "D:\Games\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption\Vampire.exe" - console.

Now with console enabled try spawning some other light objects to see if this is a dynalight issue. Press the ~ key to enable console. Console will appear as just a small black bar at the top-center of the screen. The command to spawn things is addthing #templatename.Examples:

addthing flare
addthing flashlight

The above items are also equipped-able. The flare should emit light even when on the ground. Let me know how that goes if you decide to test this.

Indeed, seems to be a Intel GPU software problem.

As far as I can see, some people recommend dgVoodoo but that doesn't seem to be opensource like other direct3d wrappers.

Any official solution for this from GOG?
