Ok, so there's always more then one way to do something on linux. The way I will describe here is a relatively easy way that should be fairly painless for both linux noobs and people that just don't want to bother with whine.

Step 1. Install Steam, GameHub and innoextract from your distro's repository.

Step 2. Log into steam, open GameHub and log into GoG.com

Step 3. In GameHum click on Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and when prompted to install locate the "Compatibility layer" line and scroll down to Proton latest and click install. Don't bother lunching the game yet.

Step 4. Dl the latest unofficial patch. In the directory where it was dl open a terminal - either use the gui to open a terminal there or navigate from the terminal there then run

innoextract -e VTMBup108rc2.1.exe

...ok, you might want to replace VTMBup108rc2.1.exe with the name of the unofficial patch at the time of your reading this - at the time of writing that is the latest patch.

Step 5. From GameHub right click Vampire the Masquerade Bloodline and click Open install directory. Now, copy all the previously extracted file here.

Step 6. From GameHub right click Vampire the Masquerade Bloodline and click Properties. Here, go to the field that says argument and type: -game Unofficial_Patch then close the window.

Step 7. From GameHub LEFT click Vampire the Masquerade Bloodline and enjoy the game patched with the latest unofficial patch and no wine faffing about. ... that being said, this does mean you will be playing with the plus patch.

NOTE. Are there better ways to make this work on Linux? yes. Are they simpler? ...that will depend on you. Also, you might have to manually kill vampire.exe when you exit from the system monitor... the game doesn't seem to want to close, it saves and it plays alright, but it hangs on closing.
