Hey, I just started this game. I get to an apartment and there is a desk with a computer, a document, etc. How do I use/read/get these items? I put my crosshair pointer on it and click, but it just makes me hit it. I don't see anything in the manual about this.

Please help & thanks

Use the "use" key...
Exactly what wesp said.

My advice is to take a little time to learn the controls and re-bind them (if necessary) in a way that feels comfortable to you. There should be plenty of opportunity for that in Santa Monica.

Did you play the tutorial when the game starts (accepting help from Jack)? That should have explained most of the necessary controls.

I tried the tutorial but it glitched and I missed most of it. So, I read the manual and it doesn't mention using items.

I suggest finishing the tutorial. You should have no problem after that. It will show you how to use your disciplines as well as how to use things.

It's a pretty good tutorial. I've done it many times and I still don't skip it when I start a new game. It's got some good story content.

Plus, it's Jack. When Jack talks, you should listen.

Indeed!

If you want a non-spoiler tip, talk to Jack often. He has a lot to say about almost everything.

Damn straight.

I only skipped the tutorial once, but have never and will never do it again. You also gain some XP from the tutorial IIRC.
