I'm not really familiar with Toreadors and I don't know your stats, but even with poor melee damage you can dance in and out using celerity (and get in several hits each time) and should be okay. If you get a torch it will do aggravated damage which is good; otherwise either the knife or your fists are probably your best bet, unless you got the fireaxe (Plus patch only, I think). Definitely use your gun until you run out of ammo, with celerity you should be able to stay away from him and line up your shots. You may need some blood packs for either healing or refilling your blood pool. If you run out of ammo and blood, trade a few hits in melee before using a pack, to get the most out of it.

TLDR: use your disciplines, especially celerity, and your blood packs. If you haven't already found it , there's at least one free blood pack in your apartment refrigerator.

What side quests have you completed? Are you playing with basic patch or plus patch (if you are just using the GOG version with nothing else thats the basic patch)? The more we know about what you can do to improve things the more help we can give you.

One other thing - you can come back and complete this later providing you haven't done all the side quests yet - what Chide Roland was likely alluding to when asking about side quests.

Yes, the side quests can give you more exp to increase your stats and depending on whether you're playing basic or plus patch there are one or two side quests that can be used to get better weapons that might help out (they're both melee unfortunately, but might make the difference in finishing him off). Also, depending on what you have or haven't done so far you might be able to get a better gun.

How do you suggest to get a better gun for the galery quest? You can get shotguns only in the diner fight or in the warehouse which must be later.
The cathayan might drop the crossbow in the plus patch, but he isn't easier to kill than the blood guardian and the reload time makes the crossbow a useless weapon against a melee attacker.
Well, you can kill a cop to get the glock (plus only I think), but then you also need heaps of cash because the only way to get ammo this early in the game is selling the gun to Trip and then buy the gun and ammo back in the same visit.

But in any case, you should be able to defeat the guy with celerity, presence and a knife even if you don't spend points on strength and melee.

I was going to say the Glock, but yes, it has limited (or costly) ammo, and, as you say, he shouldn't need a better gun yet.

The walkthrough indicates that the Glock may be available in Basic, but it doesn't actually say, so it might just be his nightstick. In Plus patch I think the Cathayan can drop the flaming crossbow, but that's not a big help. He can however drop a sword which is pretty good, especially early game. Personally I'd probably use fists instead of the knife if I didn't have a sword or fireaxe, but to each their own.

IMO the early guns are pretty useless (except for the shotgun in the last part of one level), but after getting to the third hub you can get better ones. So it's probably worth it to wait on putting points into firearms until then. There are other things that can be more useful early on.
About availability of the glock, I do know that Wesp has given the cops a glock instead of the 38 for a better fit with the model. But I'm not certain if this is plus only or not.
And of course you must make certain that he uses the gun and not the baton when you kill him...

I don't think the Shin Gunto you can get from the asian vamp is better than a knife. Damage is only 2 points more than the knife but the knife is faster. Anyway for roleplaying reasons I prefer my character to use only small weapons like a knife or a pistol. Even in LA it might look a bit suspicious if you run around with a sword, two shotguns and a sniper rifle ;)
Usually I get the knife as soon as possible and keep it as my main (melee) weapon until I can get the rahe blade or at least a katana.
Then I take the glock from one of the russin mobsters because I need it for Bishop Sick. And in Hollywood I buy the colt anaconda for a long range weapon. And later the uzi and /or Steyr for the hengeyokai, Ming and the sheriff in batform.
Even if you aren't good in melee, you can use knife (lethal damage) and blood buff (maximizes strength, raises melee feat score). Blunt damage (bullets) against supernaturals, won't get you anywhere, especially in early game with cheap pistols.
