Well, the good thing that there is "RTX off" version. So we can hope the game will be playable without that over-hyped technological garbage.
And yes - so far RTX is just that - over-hyped technological garbage.

Well there'd have to be an RTX-off version, otherwise only RTX-capable cards would be able to play the game - which is only the latest (<1-2 years old) Nvidia cards.

If it looks awesome while still maintaining a decent frame-rate, I don't see a problem with it. Not sure the difference in quality is enough to make people upgrade (I might since by the time the game comes out, it might be time for me to get a new graphics card and/or rig).

I hope there WILL be RTX-off version. Because right now the result do not justify the price of the RTX-compatible videocards.
Bah! You can have some ray-tracing that do not demand RTX support on chip. No way am I paying €1250 for a graphics card even if it is the most powerful card aimed at gamers.

EDIT: It seems I was not clear enough; you do NOT need Nvidia's RTX in order to have ray tracing. It only helps frame rates by handling that task faster.

Oddly, the locations shown in the video (to me at least) resembles Santa Monica in the first Bloodlines. I think I just need sleep.

Oh I agree there should be an RTX-off version - for the main reason that I doubt everyone who wants to play this is going to have an RTX-capable card available when it comes out.

Yeah at the moment it definitely seems over-priced - like pretty much all new technology has been in the past. If it's viable, then it will appear in more cards and the price will come down. There's also the possibility of an alternate version coming out on non-Nvidia cards, then finally some kind of standardised implementation/API across all of them (this is likely years away - assuming it doesn't just end up as another Nvidia-only thing that quietly dies as cards advance without it).

Personally I never buy the top-of-the-line card when it comes out anyway - it's much more viable to go for the card that's one (or even two) levels below that. That way the $/performance ratio is much better, enabling more frequent upgrades.

These days even a card that's a few years old can easily max out the settings for most new games (at least ones I'm interested in) and still achieve acceptable performance - then again I tend to buy "new" games about a year or so after release, since that way I don't have to participate in the early access (i.e. the first 6-12 months after the official "release") and participate in the beta period instead (i.e. 12-24+ months after release). ;)

Unless the tech is able to be supported by people other than Nvidia it's difficult it will catch on. Remember what happened with Physix.

I guess if it's awesome enough and Nvidia aren't too stingy they'll license the tech to others? Otherwise it'll be the same as Physix for sure. Hopefully they'll learn from it - although I suspect that eventually we'll see a more "generic" implementation that won't be compatible with the Nvidia one, at some point - making this tech mostly redundant.
