Dear fellas,

I just bought the game and started playing. I fail during the tutorial when I am supposed to eliminate that huge newborn vamp. I cannot block nor attack him using Mouse1 / Enter / Tab. Is there anything I need to know to get into 'attack' mode? I am using the ultimate patch which is delivered by GOG.

I tried a clean reinstall and wiped out the entire directory. But there seem to be settings stored in the registry because after the reinstall settings like e.g. my screen resolution are still remembered. Still no change. And it is really annoying to retry from start just to find out after the long intro it still doesn't work :(

Appreciate any help!
regards caetydid
Have you equiped your fists? Afaik you have to do this before the first fight. After that you use the weapon you have used last.

I pressed F1, if that's what you mean. BTW I found this:

gonna try this...but come on ... how buggy a game can be?

Are you running the game from the patch shortcut and not the legacy shortcut? This bug should be fixed by the patch!

I am running with the patch. Options are reporting Unofficial Patch Basic 9.7
I was able to make it work with the console now:
wine vampire.exe -game Unofficial_Patch -console

Why are you running 9.7 and not 9.9? Also if you want help you need to tell us that you are using Wine...

Hi, the GOG version has this patch. Is it recommended to upgrade to 9.9?
Your'e right I should have mentioned it in the beginning I am using wine. Sorry for that...
This problem is probably unrelated to wine, unless the installer silently misbehaves, but I doubt this, since other users of other versions of the game/patch (not in the GOG forum) had this problem, too. One can find it via keywords "cannot equip fists". The workaround with the console made it work for me now.

You will still get other issues later on when Python scripts are not called correctly. Better start the game with the linux loader script you can find in the Patch_Extras/Player Mods folder.

Thanks for this hint. I found I need to upgrade my patch to get this folder first...
Don't mean to hijack the thread. But since I have a similar issue with Windows 10, I figured I'd would post my problem here.

I am running the game through the unofficial patch shortcut on Windows 10. But when I equip any weapon and left click or press enter, I swing the weapon only once. I cannot fight in quick succession. I have to move around and wait 10-15 seconds before I can attack again. As you can imagine that first vamp I fought in the tutorial murdered me. I figured I restart and skip the tutorial but I have the same problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled VTMB with the UOP, but still same problem. I am running the latest version of the UOP I could find 9.9.

A couple of months ago when I first bought the game. I installed it with UOP 9.8 beta 1 and it worked fine. Combat was fine.

Should I uninstall and reinstall the game again with UOP 9.8 beta 1?

Edit: Saw that a new version of the unofficial patch has been released. Will give that a try and post my results.

Edit2: Nope same problem. The combat was working fine when I first installed the game with the 9.8 beta 1 patch. Now when I enter combat my vamp just swings or shoots once, then I have to wait 10 - 15 seconds before I can swing or shoot again.

I never changed anything there in the patch, so it's probably a Windows 10 update that messed this up. Have you tried the dinput8.dll fix that is included in the Patch_Extras/Player Mods for this?
Nope. I did not try that. But I will now. :)

Edit: Ha! It works! Thank you for the suggestion, and thank you for your hard work. :)
