I picked up a scroll without any description other than 'Scroll'. It was on Adam's Chantry in Prague, i think. I can't do anything with it.
Also picked up a book without any description other than 'Book' on Teutonic Knight Base in Vienna. I can right click on it but it just vanishes. I can't tell if it does anything or not, i'm leaning towards 'NOT'.
So, what are these for exactly ? Just rubbish ?

These are not useless. You can sell them ;).
I don't think there is any use for them but I can't tell for sure. At least manual strictly claims that tomes and scrolls are bound to certain disciplines. There is a lot of thing that can be useless, like for example items that are "Human only" - these may be useful in multi-player games however, so these empty items may be similar.

Yes, i already used a couple of tomes to acquire new disciplines, and i have no problem using scrolls like scroll of celerity or walk the abyss, etc.
Also, all the books, real books not discipline tomes, i've found so far are readable, like Garinol's Journal or Ardan's Manifest.
The thing is, this scroll and this book seem to be unique so far, and i'm kind of wondering if they're of any use, other than possibly selling them like you mentioned.
I've attched pics of the items in question.

If there is some way to use it, then it involves some super-secret-that-no-one-has-revealed-yet. These are definitely not necessary to complete any quests (quest items cannot be sold anyway). Maybe there is some secret use to it, but I seriously doubt it. The only walk-through that I have seen that actually mentions it says something like: "I have no idea what this is for". It's not even Mysterious Tome or anything. Wirt's leg situation is unlikely ;). And off course you could just store it in your chest, but again - I don't know what for. However if you think you have found a use to it and don't have it any more, there is always a cheat that allows you to summon any item (including "tome" and "scroll").

And yeah, they don't seem to have any particular use other than taking up inventory space ;)
