Installed and tried to launch but nothing happens except some computer slowdown. The application is visible in the task manager (under processes but not applications) but no game nor any error message comes up. Re-installed the game and tried again but same result.

Specs:
Pentium (S) D 2.66 Ghz
1 GB Ram Radeon X800
Windows XP SP 3

I don't know if you've solved this yet, but make sure you give it a good while to start. Especially if the process appears to still be crunching numbers and not completely frozen.

I knew from previous plays that the game can take a while, I just timed it with my stopwatch and it took approximately 1:57 before the game finally popped up on first load. For reference, that was with a Phenom 2 throttled to an idle 800MHz.

If the game isn't going to start, there's a good chance it will terminate on its own like it does with one of my notebooks (which I'm sure the failure to ultimately run is due to the elderly video card, ATi Mobility M1, or simply a lack of RAM).

Also, keep in mind the game can use a staggering amount of RAM. At the title screen, it's Working Set is nearly 1.8GB. Your 32 bit system may be starved somewhat and doing some extra thrashing on your Virtual Memory.

I would say, so long as the process remains active and your drive is seeing activity, let it continue while you do other things. It may likely take quite a few minutes to load.

Ouch. Do you know if it's a 3-GB-aware application on XP?
Sorry, no, I don't. You should probably take that question to the developer. I know Endless Fluff have their own forums but you might consider just trying to contact them directly, they have info and support addresses on their website.

If you do find out you might repost the answer, I'd find that interesting to know.

Hmmn, okay I'll give it a bit next time. I hope that's a one time thing, because if it takes 2 minutes to launch normally then I don't think I'll be playing the game very much.

I know another game took a while to launch the first time then launched quicker thereafter. Maybe that's the case here.
That could certainly be frustrating. Especially considering the game is pretty good, one of the best Metroidvanias I've played.

Looking on the bright side though, I think the game is still in active development (with another two characters to be released, actually). I don't know what limitations they may have with their engine, but perhaps they'll improve loading in new patches. If you do discover that the game does start after a long while, you might also consider bringing that up with the developers to see if their engine could allow them to improve the initial startup and load in assets as required.

Well I tried the game just now and gave it a couple minutes to launch. It did launch though, wasn't really playable.

The movement of the characters was fine and the graphics looked good but at the end of a cutscene or even moving to a different screen there would be a significant delay of a minute or more. Even when I killed the first enemy, the death effect caused the game to pause for some 15 seconds before the effect was rendered out.

So. not really playable on my system it seems. At least in its current state.

I do have a second, more powerful tower from a friend which I've never gotten around to setting up aside from a KVM switch, so maybe I'll finally get that one running with an O/S and a try the game there instead.

Thanks
