Ok, maybe this is well-known, but I try to stay away from searching online about games unless I'm absolutely stuck. Anyway, while playing today I discovered that when you're running password breaker and waiting for it to figure it out,

you can hover the cursor over the password box and type into it while you're waiting - so you can try to guess while the breaker is running, and if you're correct, you don't have to sit there and wait for the breaker to finish.

A good tip if you've used the slower password breaker instead of the dictionary hacker and you realise it's a common word or phrase that has been used.

holy crap i didn't know this. i do know some of the passwords used in uplink though, the game recycles them, this could shave a bunch of time off my hacking.
